Super Smash Bros 3DS Review

Super Smash Bros has been one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, and although it may not have the following that Mario Kart does, there are still millions of people around the world who long for the generational Smash Bros games. While we all anticipate the Wii U launch in November, Nintendo is treating us to the first handheld edition of the game, Super Smash Bros 3DS.

Ex-Dice Employee: “Don’t Buy Battlefield Hardline at Launch!”

It's not uncommon for ex-employees to voice opinions about their previous employer and the projects they are working on. Via an As Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit this week, we were able to hear what ex-Dice designer Tim Kjell had to say about the Battlefield franchise. His opinion: don't buy Battlefield Hardline at launch.

Super Smash Bros Wii U Controller Bundle Surfaces

Amazon is often at the forefront of showing off products first. Today, a Super Smash Bros Wii U game bundle, which includes the game, controller, and controller attachment, has been listed on the site for 99.99. While no official release date has been announced by Nintendo, I think it is safe to say we will still be seeing this title before the holidays.

Hyrule Warriors Review

Nintendo isn't known for branching out and trying new things. They milk their franchises, and not in a bad way. While many companies tend to produce shovelware, where the brand sells the game rather than the gameplay itself, Nintendo almost always brings AAA experiences to the table. With Hyrule Warriors, however, Nintendo has done something unprecedented for the company: they handed one of their most important franchises to another company to use. While my ...

Sony Wants To Show the Value of Paying for Online

Microsoft was way ahead of the game when it came to charging people to play games online. Many argued that it wasn't a smart move, saying it would push players away from the Xbox towards other, free online platforms such as the Wii and PS3. However, Microsoft always believed in the online product they were giving fans, and in general, many will argue that Microsoft held the online interaction advantage over a usable, albeit not always user friendly, model used ...

Nintendo Leading a Double Life: Issues in N.A. and Success in Japan

Nintendo is leading a double life, and it has to be insanely frustrating for the executives. In the west, the Wii U troubles are well documented, and while they have been selling fairly well since the launch of Mario Kart - and, will continue through Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros - they still are not doing as well as they themselves had hoped. In Japan, however, Nintendo is actually selling on par with the PS4, and the New 3DS and the New 3DS LL are ...

A Week of Wacky, Weird, and Wonderful Video Game News

Outside of the recent #gamergate controversy, video game news is often very predictable. You know a few days or weeks before a game launch you'll have reviews to read, at the end of each month you will have console and software numbers to debate about, and every so often you'll get a nice dose of wacky, and sometimes wonderful, news. The last few weeks seem to be full of wacky and wonderful gaming news.

Different Levels of Caring: Xbox and Sony vs Nintendo

The current generation is made up of three consoles, with each console doing its best to steal sales and finish number one month after month. Different levels of 'trying' are required. Sony and the PS4 are getting sales regardless of what they do; many of Sony's new following have been swayed by statements (not always necessarily true) made about its number one competitor, Microsoft's Xbox One. Microsoft has more work to do than Sony, although almost completely ...

Japan Sales Show Nintendo Has a Mega Hit in Super Smash on 3DS

Super Smash Bros is a huge franchise, and one that Nintendo has returned to generation after generation. It can be perceived as a guaranteed money maker. However, I was skeptical when the 3DS version was announced, and even more skeptical as gameplay footage began to be released. After all, this was a first for this franchise on handheld. Nintendo has managed to sell over a a million copies of the game in Japan - both at retail and digitally on the eShop - ...

SteamWorld Heist Blasting Onto Devices in Spring 2015

A few weeks back, I reviewed SteamWorld Dig on the Wii U. The game was so fantastic, I've now owned it on multiple different platforms including my Wii U for at home and 3DS for on the road. The game is that good. If you haven't picked it up, stop reading this useless announcement, grab the game and play it, and come back to read this at your convenience. After all, the release date for their next title isn't until Spring 2015.

Microsoft Buys Mojang and Minecraft for Estimated 2.5 Billions

It is official. Mojang posted on their own website that, "Yes, the deal is real. Mojang is being bought by Microsoft." This is probably great news for Microsoft as purchasing a giant such as Minecraft is bound to make them a lot more than they spent. One thing Microsoft isn't getting, however, is the brilliant mind of Minecraft creator, Notch.

Super Smash 3DS Demo and Club Nintendo Fights Back

Next week, on September 19th, a Super Smash 3DS demo will go live. Like all demos on the eShop, players will be limited to 30 plays. 30 plays isn't a lot, which means gamers may want to use them sparingly as there will be still three weeks until the game officially launches. Nintendo has lots to prove with this title as it is the first on handheld in the franchises history. This demo will make or break this game at retail in early October.

Cubemen 2 Review

The Wii U gamepad is severely underutilized on the system, and very few game creators outside of Nintendo are trying to use it as more than just an away-from-TV screen. Developer Nnooo, however, has attempted to do so with their latest release, Cubemen 2. I reviewed Cubemen 2 on the Wii U, but after playing just one match on the PC once I was done with the Wii U version, I knew I was playing the wrong version.
