I wrote a previous article on GamesReviews about Nintendo diving into collectible, playable toys market. A day after the article was posted, it was announced that these toys would be usable across a variety of Nintendo games and not be tied to one specific game franchise like the toys used in Disney Infinity or Skylanders. One such rumor was that the NFC figures, scanned using the NFC reader on the Wii U gamepad, would be used in Super Smash Bros.

NES Remix II builds on the same basic gameplay mechanics of the original NES Remix. And this is great, because it allows players to attempt challenges in some more popular classic titles such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Zelda 2, Dr. Mario, and Punch-Out. NES Remix II added leaderboards, allowing players to post their scores to Miiverse and to compare with others. Although not a game changer, it was a welcome addition.

Nintendo is a financial powerhouse in the console and software business, regardless of how poor they have done lately. This is built off the backs of strong franchises such as Mario and Zelda. However, Nintendo does experiment with other intellectual properties, whether in a direct development role, or in a lesser role as a producer.

It has been a long wait. It seems like years since we received our first screens, months since that detailed, energetic Nintendo Direct... Now, it will only be a little over a week before we can all play it. It's almost Mario Kart time, and it just cannot seem to come fast enough. I had zero desire to sit down and write this up. The tune many are singing right now is that Mario Kart 8 is a make-or-break title for the Wii U. While I originally agreed, a brief conversation with GamesReviews' own Mat Growcott made me change my mind, slightly. My take on the situation is that one game does not save a system, but, if released at a crucial time, it can be the catalyst that changes everything.

We haven't come to a point yet where headlines can read, "Wii U is Dead" despite claims from many that this is indeed the case. However, if Nintendo's finances do not improve in the Wii U division after the release of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, perhaps this what all major news outlets will be saying.

To say that Nintendo has released more of something is nothing new. More Mario Kart, more Yoshi's Island, and now more Kirby. I use these three specific examples for a reason. More Mario Kart has always been a good thing, while more Yoshi's Island wasn't. Another game in the Kirby franchise is not like another Mario Kart game, but is leaps and bounds ahead of Yoshi's Island.

If you've never played a third person RPG such as Diablo or Sacred, then perhaps Holy Avatar vs Maidens of the Dead is the game you ought to pick up. It's simple enough to grasp within a few minutes, but complicated enough to provide hours of fun. Don’t go in expecting a serious story with gripping plot changes. Instead, be ready to observe a very intelligent parody of what a traditional RPG really is.

The Mario Golf World Tour demo has landed in Europe, and will be available in North America this Thursday.  Early indications from some of the major gaming news sites is that the newest Mario Golf is just another example of the top notch work that Nintendo is doing.  From my own experiences with the game, it is a worthy successor to Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, albeit one that was too long in the making.
