Star Wars Unlimited: A Lawless Time – Leia Organa & Aspects
Two new starter decks came to the office from Fantasy Flight Games and asmodee Canada and we have really enjoyed them so far. New credit tokens are introduced in this set, as well as new dual-aspect cards. We previously looked at the Jabba the Hutt starter deck and accessories, so today we will be looking at the Leia Organa deck!

A Lawless Time – Leia Organa
Leia Organa is a strong leader when deployed, but is quite costly. She can provide +2/+2 or +3/+3 boosts to your strongest units, which can make a big difference when done at the right time. That said, there is a lot of resource management required to play Leia Organa well, which makes this one of the more difficult starter decks to play with for new players in my opinion.
Leia does take advantage of the new double-aspect cards and having a bunch of these quickly can make Leia powerful quickly. She’ll need 3 different aspects in playing amongst units, but these double-aspect cards introduced in this set makes that much easier. To that end, Leia can get a lot of units out quickly and overwhelm opponents – the question is, can you make it work?

Double-aspects – two aspects on top of hero or villainy denotation – make building decks a lot harder because you likely will have a good number of cards into your deck your leader doesn’t have the aspects for, making them more expensive to play. That said, there are cards that allow you to ignore a single aspect when playing cards, but you need to build your deck in such a way that these cards get played.
While building a good double-aspect deck is a lot of fun, it is also incredibly challenging. And if the right cards don’t populate for you, you’ll be dead in the water. I like the idea of double-aspect cards, and think it provides a lot of really interesting ideas to the game. In fact, you can just mix a few double aspect cards into your decks that fit your leader perfectly. That said, like with the Jabba the Hutt deck and the idea of credits, I think to really get a great deck, you’ll need to go online and see what other players are doing with these ideas.
On your own, as a novice or casual Star Wars Unlimited player, I think making a double-aspect deck could be really difficult. But if you really enjoy deck building, both the idea of double-aspects and credits will make putting together your deck really enjoyable. For me, though, it was more frustrating then fun, so I’ll stick to playing with these pre-made decks. As always, I think Fantasy Flight Games always does a really good job creating competitive starter decks. Leia Organa is no different in that regard!
