Star Wars Unlimited: A Lawless Time – Jabba the Hutt & Credits
Our friends at Fantasy Flight Games and asmodee Canada sent over two new starter decks for Star Wars Unlimited. These decks are part of the A Lawless Time release, and we quite enjoyed both decks overall. Asmodee also sent over a brand new Jabba the Hutt playmat and a Jabba the Hutt soft case.

We’ve said it many times before, and I will say it again. Star Wars Unlimited releases some of my favourite trading card game mats of any company; this is likely to do with the fact that I love Star Wars, but the art they choose is just phenomenal. This same art carries over to the softcase as well, which holds one complete, sleeved deck and tokens for a single player. GameGenic and Fantasy Flight Games haven’t really altered the style of these cases since the game first launched, and that is a testament to their quality and usability!
A Lawless Time: Jabba the Hutt
I do love that starter decks come with tip cards that provide a few ideas of how you should play the decks. New to A Lawless Time are credit tokens that allow you to play cards more quickly. For Jabba, it is recommended to play these credits wisely! They allow Jabba to get expensive units into play long before you normally would. You’ll want to save some credits too, though, as you’ll want them when you deploy Jabba. You can give your units Ambush which can be really good if done at the right time!

Jabba also has a ton of Underworld units with fantastic when-played abilities. You can use Jabba’s ability to return these cards to your hand to use again at a later time. Pretty nifty if you can get the right cards out at the right time.
This deck does a great job of highlighting how Credits work. There are several leaders in the game now that can use credits or create credit tokens. The tokens, when created, often times do other things as well like exhaust enemy units, remove units from the board – friendly and enemy. Tokens can also be created as a trigger to something happening, like losing a unit. How you manage these credit tokens is pretty interesting, and I think you could build some really cool decks that will allow you to overwhelm an enemy with units if you can get enough.
What I’m worried about is that building a good credit deck will be REALLY hard, and unless you are borrowing deck ideas from people online, I’m not sure you can make it work if your are a more casual player. Within the Jabba the Hutt deck I think it works really well, but I’m wondering how valuable it will be long term.

What I love about these decks from Fantasy Flight Games is that they are always so accessible. They do a great job of teaching new ideas and concepts, but keep things simple enough to get people into the experience sooner rather than latter.
There is a second starter deck, Leia Organa, which we will review shortly, as well as talk about the new ideas introduced in A Lawless Time.
