InverseGamer Discuss – PS5 or PC

The big question of 2021 isn’t got to do with Covid or the American presidency – it’s which should I buy – PS5 or PC?

InverseGamer is a gaming website that discusses all things gaming and we asked them to provide us with some insight into which they think you should consider. Here is the downlow.

PlayStation 5’s Hard Drive

Sony says the PS5 uses a new revolutionary breed of SSD drive that is not yet available for PCs. This has become a first because most of the console technology usually follows the lead of the PC market – and this trend has continued to increase in the past 15 years.

This means consoles are holding an advantage over a PC for the first time, which gives PlayStation bragging rights at the very least.

The PC Has Better Overall Tech

Putting SSD aside, PCs mops the floor with all the consoles, even the latest ones like PS5 and ones that are coming like the Xbox Series X. this is because PC has a superior hardware pool. If you were to count the CPU, RAM, video card, and motherboard options out there, then you will see that there isn’t really any comparison.

The process of building your gaming PC to match the exact specs and budget is simple and straightforward. This has even become easier today. There is a steep learning curve when it comes to this, even for those buying pre-built systems, but it is going to pay off massively.

It is Easier to Use the PS5

It can be rewarding and enjoyable to buy or build an optimal PC, but many gamers prefer cracking open a box, hooking up the console to the TV, and start gaming straight away.

Choosing a console is always advantageous for many people, and it has always been. You don’t have to worry about setting up the operating system, dealing with viruses or bloatware, or fussing with drivers. This is because the PS5 is dedicated to one thing and one thing only.

The PC Offers More Versatility

This is a counter-argument to the previous point. When you build your PC, you get access to a much larger ecosphere. The hardware is capable of handling any secondary or tertiary task easily, and this will open up a wide range of possibilities.

When you have a powerful gaming PC, you can use it for music production, video editing, or 3d modeling/animation. Programs harness the process cores found in gaming CPUs to improve performance. When you build your own gaming PC, you can kill two birds with one stone. It can serve three or even four functions.

PS5s Have an Exclusive Advantage

If this was an argument between a PC and the Xbox Series X, then things would be different. Most of the Xbox exclusives out there are being released on Windows PCs simultaneously – even the upcoming Halo: Infinite.

With the PS5, it is different. Their exclusives are not being released on the PC front, except for Horizon Zero Dawn. This means PC users don’t get Last Of Us, God of War, or Spider-Man. If it is an argument about buying a console by looking at their exclusive games, then the PS5 comes out at the top.

PCs Play Games Better

This is not always the case. A game destined for the PC can be easily ruined by a rotten console port, but PC remains one of the best ways to game. It has powerful components and this means faster frame rates, higher resolutions, and access to the modding community, which is going to help in extending the lifespan of your library. You can also purchase many games from Origin, Steam, and Epic Stores. Buying from them is great because they have sales regularly and the prices can drop by as much as 90%.

This has been tried out by the console market, but it doesn’t feel the same. You are going to make some sacrifices if you want to keep the costs down. Sony is going to fall short of what PCs can do, no matter how much money they lose on their consoles.

The PS5 has a UHD Blu-Ray Drive

This is the one area where consoles hold a huge advantage over the PC market. Sony decided to add a Blu-Ray drive to PS3, and it has made it a must in every one of their subsequent releases. Console manufacturers have made it a must. This has become a good option for many people because they plug the console into the living room TV set, and it becomes the center of the media hub.

You no longer require to purchase a separate unit to watch UHD Blu-Rays in 10-bit 4K color. This gives buyers the chance of having a gaming device that can also be used in playing media in the best format possible. The PC market is not putting much focus on optical drives with some even avoiding it because they have the option of streaming.

The PC is a Media Hub

There is a strong case that can be made about PC being a media hub, despite being outdone by the consoles in terms of the Blu-Ray drive. A mid-range PC that has a healthy dose of RAM and a decent CPU can easily run a streaming media center.

Plex servers are popular with PC users, and it will take only 5 minutes to set it up locally to your TC. With such services, PC gamers can easily set up and run an unlimited supply of TV shows and movies (even in 4k UHD) on demand, and this means they don’t have to insert a disk or click through menus.

The PS5 Pricing Vs Lifespan

The PS5 costs $499, which sounds about right considering its specifications. There are those claiming that Sony is going to take a hit for each unit sold, but it is not a big deal for them because it is part of the game.

You can expect the system to last 6 to 7 years (this is going by past consoles), which is not that bad. The fact that PS5 comes with backward compatibility with games made for older versions and the value you are getting makes it even more attractive for most people. This price is fair considering what the PS5 is offering. One thing you need to keep in mind is that Sony or Microsoft can decide to introduce a more beefed-up version midway as they did with the PS4 Pro.

You can Upgrade Your PC

One of the biggest benefits of having a PC is you can upgrade it so it can go beyond its perceived expiration date. If you invest in a powerful build from the start, then you can expect to get excellent gaming for a decade to come without having to spend a lot of money getting a new machine.

If newer titles come out with higher demands, PC gamers can just add a stick or two of RAM, invest in a new video card, or upgrade the CPU. Form factors will change at one point and gamers have to get new machines, but this is going to happen after the existing console cycle is over.
