Gravitrax Skytrax is the Next Marble Run Iteration – It Is Phenomenal

My kids absolutely love the Gravitrax marble system, and have been playing with it for years. We have reviewed a ton of sets over the past few years, and earlier this year a new set dropped. I think Gravitrax SkyTrax has the highest entry barrier as it takes a bit more skill to maximize the fun, but even for beginners it will be lots of fun! The SkyTrax line is one of the most exciting recent additions to the GraviTrax universe. Originally released in mid-2025, it represents a new generation of pieces that let you build vertically and architecturally in ways the earlier sets could only hint at.

Right off the bat, SkyTrax introduces a fresh twist on marble run fun by letting you stack track tiles directly on top of each other without needing separate height tiles to hold them up. Traditional GraviTrax builds relied on stacked hexagon height pieces and transparent plates to gain elevation, but SkyTrax tiles themselves function as height and track elements. There is a lot of potential within these new pieces, including:

  1. Some have built-in catchers and droppers that let marbles exit sideways or downward at different points.
  2. Specialized slides give you swooping momentum as marbles spiral around towers.
  3. Connectors help form bridges and suspended structures that otherwise would be impossible or clunky in older sets.

When you open the box, you’ll find a mix of tiles, connectors, slides, and marbles that feel reminiscent of the classic GraviTrax vibe — but bigger and bolder. Instructions usually give a few sample layouts, but most of the fun comes from designing your own creations. Within 10–20 minutes you can build a cortical tower with multiple inlets and outlets for marbles to explore, which is a refreshing evolution from flat-and-long builds. That said, planning can be a bit trickier than with classic sets. With so many vertical choices and off-center drop points, marbles have more ways to go “off script.” We have had a few experiences in our builds where things didn’t quite go as planned. This doesn’t happen all the time, but does seem to happen more with this set than others.

Because of the more complex stacking and less intuitive flow compared to basic packs, it might feel a bit overwhelming for absolute beginners — but once you get the hang of it, the vertical freedom truly opens new possibilities. And new possibilities is what makes GraviTrax SkyTrax so impressive. My kids have been playing with these toys for years, and it did take them a bit of time to master getting these new pieces to work. That said, I do believe this is the best expansion for the toy since the ability to build off the side of towers. That also had a bit of a learning curve, but ultimately was really rewarding when we figured it out.

GraviTrax SkyTrax is not the expansion I would pick up first after getting the starter box, but it is one that longtime fans will enjoy as it will stretch their imaginations and require them to do a bit more thinking than previous sets have required. Overall, this is a solid box, and one worth spending your holiday money on!
