Lure Components Overview and Impressions

I generally don’t do components overviews and impressions of small box games, but we’ve had such great feedback on these articles that I had to see how a shorter article would do! Lure doesn’t have a ton of components, but like with most AllPlay releases, there is a good balance of quality and price that makes their games so attractive.

What Lure does come with is a ton of dice, a few standard D6 dice in various colours, along with a d12 and d20. The colours are really vibrant, and as the dice are all etched, they will last for a good long time. I also received the Lure: Deep Waters expansion which comes with an additional d4 die in each colour.

The game also has a wack of cards. I love the art on the fish cards, and the iconography is fantastic as well. I love when companies can blend good artwork with fantastic iconography as it makes the game easy to play, but also nice to look at. The card quality is fine; I do think AllPlay aims for a acceptable card quality in their small box games and for good reason: cards are expensive to produce, so going all out with something like linen finish cards gets really expensive, a cost passed on to the consumer. While I doubt I’ll be sleeving my copy of Lure, if you plan to play this a lot, it might be worth your while.

The game also has a few cardboard lure chits, which are a nice size and thickness. The solid coated cardstock screens to hide your dice and lure’s is all nice and sturdy, and have great information on the inside of the screens to make playing and remembering rules a breeze!

The downside to a lot of AllPlay games in my opinion is the odd box size. It sometimes makes putting an AllPlay game PLUS an expansion away more difficult than it needs to be, especially when dice are involved. That is not the case here, as the game fits nicely into the box WITH the Deep Waters expansion as well. I love when there is room in the box for expansions. To be fair, I shouldn’t really complain about a base box not holding the base game plus expansions. That’s pretty unfair. All AllPlay games, on their own, fit into their boxes quite well. I just get excited when expansions fit nicely too!
