Asmodee Distributing Ostia in North America with New Edition

Ostia is one of the more popular games to come out of Asia in recent years, and was recently picked up by Crafty Games for distribution in the United States. Asmodee has jumped in and will now be distributing a new version of the game for all of North America, called Ostia: Mariner Edition. Check out bits from the press release below!

Asmodee North America today announced a new exclusive distribution partnership with Crafty Games to bring Ostia: Mariner Edition to retailers across the United States and Canada. Under the agreement, asmodee North America will serve as the exclusive distributor for Ostia: Mariner Edition across all retail channels in the region, expanding access to the acclaimed strategic board game for hobby and mass market retailers alike.

Ostia was designed by Takuya Miyamoto, and was crowd funded with a bunch of expansions over the past few years. Players will be merchants in ancient Rome, attempting to build a trading empire in the port city of Ostia. There are a lot of systems at play here, and it was a game we almost backed ourselves. The biggest issue for us at the time was the cost of the game, but more importantly, how much it was going to cost us to ship to Canada. Having this new partnership between asmodee and Crafty Games will make this much more readily available, and significantly cheaper.

Asmodee North America had this to say about the relationship with Crafty Games and Ostia,

We’re excited to partner with Crafty Games to bring Ostia: Mariner Edition to more players across North America,” said Julien Sharp, Country Manager, asmodee North America. “The game offers a rich strategic experience and beautifully realized theme that we believe will resonate strongly with hobby retailers and tabletop fans alike.

Crafty Games has also commented on this brand new partnership,

Partnering with asmodee North America allows us to significantly expand the reach of Ostia: Mariner Edition,” said Alex Flagg, CEO, Crafty Games. “Their distribution network and deep relationships with retailers make them an ideal partner to bring the game to players throughout the region.

I am super excited for Ostia coming to North America in a more readily available release, and am also excited about future Japanese games coming to the North American market via this partnership.
