Kemet: Rise of the Gods Components Overview and Impressions

Kemet: Rise of the Gods has recently fulfilled its crowd funding campaign, and Matagot was nice enough to send over a copy of the expansion, along with the big storage box, for us to review. We already talked at length about Kemet: Blood and Sand which we said was really well produced, so this will just focus on what else comes in the box, and how much we like the storage solution!

If you want to know about cardboard quality, card quality, and miniatures quality, check out our Kemet: Blood and Sand components review!

Rise of the Gods comes with a ton of new miniatures and new power tiles to fold into your base game. Many of the miniatures are brand new animals and monsters you can purchase as you play, but there are also 6 epic God miniatures that not only look fantastic, but give the game a great table presence as well. And you heard me right – six! The Rise of the Gods expansion adds a sixth player (purple) into the mix, and while I love the soldier miniatures you get, they are hard to get into the storage solution.

Gone are the bags you got to store components in Blood and Sand; instead, each player is going to get their own storage tray that will hold their acquired tokens, miniatures, pyramids, plastic tokens and more. A dual layered player board – amazing upgrade, by the way – slides into a grove to hold everything in place, and the tray goes into its own slip cover with the artwork of the chosen God on the cover. The 6th player components have larger soldier miniatures than the other Gods, which does make putting the board and slip cover on a bit more challenging

All of the new miniatures included in Rise of the God are fantastic quality yet again, and will look even better painted if you have the time to do it!

Getting Kemet setup has never been easier, which is what I said when I unboxed Blood and Sand too. Now, instead of bags and trays to store miniatures, there are now coloured boxes. All of the games animals and monsters are sorted into little boxes that match the power tile type they come from. That makes finding the miniatures you need so much easier! It’s a great quality of life improvement to the setup time, and works really neatly into this storage solution. There are additional boxes as well for miscellaneous game pieces too, and also a green box for another expansion that we don’t currently own. EVERYTHING released for Kemet to date will fit in this box.

The expansion comes with new power tiles, and obviously comes with more power tile trays as well. These trays, along with all the trays from the base game and expansions, will fit into this box, all nicely stacked with a lid for the top tray. These nestle nicely into the box alongside a brand new card tray, and the token tray that you move over from the base game box. It is worth noting a new slip cover for the token tray is included with Rise of the Gods to give the game a unified look. It’s small thoughts like that which makes this box so impressive.

Components for solo play and team play are also included in this expansion, although I’m not sure how these work at this time.

What can not be overstated is how beautiful this box is. The outer artwork is PHENOMENAL and is easily the nicest looking box I own. With multiple tiers of storage, it is easy to unpack, easy to get setup, and easy to put away. These are all signs of a solid storage solution. Overall, I’m really impressed with this production – it is one of the best ever.
