Dixit Kids Components Overview and Impressions

The asmodee Kids lineup of games has been amazing so far. We talked at length when we reviewed the components for Splendor Kids that too often the production on kids games is mediocre at best. They are just games for kids, so why do they need to be good, right? Wrong. asmodee is stepping up and not only releasing fun games for kids, but giving them productions worthy of MUCH more expensive games. We just recently got Dixit Kids in for review from asmodee Canada, and the production here is top notch yet again.

The game includes a number of little wooden rabbits, all with unique colours; it would have been cool if all of the pieces were screen printed like the Head Mailrabbit and Day token were, but they are still great none-the-less. The box itself both stores the components with an insert and is used for playing the game as well. Each storage slot is considered a rabbit burrow, and little cardboard “doors” will be placed above the burrow closing it off when playing the game. These cardboard doors are nice an thick, punched out from the board with ease, and are going to hold up long term, even with grubby kids handling them.

The game also includes dozens and dozens of Dixit cards. Like with all Dixit games, the artwork is outstanding, and if you want you can mix these cards into all of your other copies of Dixit as well! I think the artwork here does tend to lean towards a younger audience, but that doesn’t make it any less stunning. And even when playing these cards in the base game, I think there will be some fun card plays and clues given!

What really impressed me with this production is the dual layered board you set on top of the game box to create the board. The dual layer allows players to slot rabbits int specific spaces. Especially with kids, this is a great touch as the table and the box will likely get bumped many times, but game pieces stay in place with ease. We talked about how the box insert was also used for playing the game, but so is the box edge! This is what you will use, along with the slotted day token, to track the days of the week. It’s a really nifty system, and one that I wish more board games used. If the box is going to be on the table anyways, you might as well use it!

I’m super impressed – although no longer shocked – with the production of this latest asmodee Kids game. I only expect this lineup to get more impressive as time passes! We know the game’s production is great, but how is the game? Stay tuned for our full review soon!
