Tea Witches Components Overview and Impressions

When I saw that the artist and designer of Flamecraft had partnered again on another title, this time with The OP, I was pretty excited. Not only did the gameplay of Tea Witches look phenomenal, but the components looked great as well!

There is a lot in the box when you first get Tea Witches to the table, and the beautiful artwork definitely pops right away. Whether it’s the various witches on the cards, the various shops you’ll be visiting, or the adorable cardboard Tea Pups, there is so much brightness and happiness in the box, it just makes me smile to see it.

Tea Witches

Component wise, Tea Witches is a top notch production. The central spinning Tea Well – is it called a tea well…no, definitely not – is the highlight of this experience. Each bowl will be filled with very durable cardboard tea tiles in various colours, and you’ll be spinning it to bring specific tea to specific shops. Although this game was sent to us by The OP for review, I did go ahead and purchase the upgraded components pack. We won’t talk about those at length here, but the upgraded components take already fantastic components, and make them better.

Don’t worry though, as the base components you get in the box are phenomenal as well. The cardboard is thick enough to make the various tea and candy tokens feel good to hold and use, but not too thick that they become cumbersome. The player boards are of great quality as well, and look like they will hold up long term – I always find player boards get a bit more beaten up than other game components, but these look great! The cardboard Tea Pups, like the other cardboard components, are phenomenal as well, and I love that the spot to hold the tea is dual layered, so once you place a tea in it, you don’t need to worry about it shuffling around or sliding off.

The central fountain is incredibly durable, and once all assembled, spins nicely in the place as it should. I was a bit worried that the spinning feature would either wear or begin to snag on things as you turned it, but after a half dozen plays, it looks brand new, with no wear to the board beneath it.  The game also comes with a ton of cards, and the quality here is better than average, although if you are into sleeving your games, this might be one you choose as you will be shuffling your player decks each and every round.

I’ve ranted about inserts for board games for a few years now, and I’m still sitting here and willing to argue with anyone that a board game insert is necessary in at least 75% of board games. Tea Witches is a game that desperately needs an insert and I’m happy to say that The OP has given us one. This is one of hte better inserts I’ve seen in recent memory, with dedicated space for everything. I can even put my deluxe components in here, which isn’t always the case with board game upgrades!

Overall, Tea Witches is a phenomenal production, but an even better game. Stay tuned for our full review of the game soon!
