Assassin’s Creed Shadows Launching on Nintendo Switch 2

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was one of our favourite Assassin’s Creed titles in the modern console era, and for good reason – traveling across Japan was a blast, and the two character story arch was really fun to play out. Choosing when to use each of the two characters was better than I thought it would be, and while I did spend a lot of my time with just one, they both had their strengths for certain situations. All of this goodness is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025.

Here is a bit from Ubisoft’s press release which they issued today:

At launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will include all content updates introduced since the game’s release, with only the ‘Claws of Awaji’ expansion arriving early next year. “We are delighted to bring Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Nintendo players,” said Charles Benoit, Game Director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. “Whether slipping through the shadows as Naoe or facing foes head-on as Yasuke, players will be able to roam the streets and rooftops of feudal Japan at home or anywhere their journey takes them on Nintendo Switch 2.” Nintendo Switch 2 owners can purchase the game on launch day for $79.99, either in a physical edition including a Nintendo Switch 2 game-key card or through a download from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will support cross-progression across all platforms through Ubisoft Connect, ensuring players can continue their journey seamlessly across platforms.

I have been less enthused by the Assassin’s Creed launches on the original Nintendo Switch, so I’m hesitantly excited to see what Ubisoft is set to do with this release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Hopefully, the more powerful hardware will make this game run better than expected. After all, as I wrote in my Star Wars Outlaws article, I love playing sprawling games on my Nintendo Switch, even if the game takes a slight graphical and performance hit. Let’s hope Shadows runs well enough for me to play long sessions on Nintendo’s handheld gaming console.
