Arcs Board Game Components Overview and Impressions

Arcs is the latest release from Leder Games and is now available at retail after a very successful Kickstarter campaign. Leder Games was nice enough to send over the base game of Arcs, so let’s get this open and let you know what we think of the included components.

Leder Games produces really nice games – nothing is every out of this world in the base box. For example, the basic components in Oath are cardboard tokens, but can be optionally upgraded to metal coins and acrylic books should you choose to do so. The production of Arcs seems to be about par for the course for Leder Games, and ultimately that’s a good thing for consumers.

There are a lot of little cardboard bits that need to be punched for this game, specifically the various space stations, but also other bits and bobs that you’ll be using. All of the cardboard in the game is nice to punch and great to the touch. It’s not overly thick – an issue I actually have with some board game productions – but not too thin either. I’m STILL looking at you, Life of the Amazonia!

I think the card quality Leder Games uses is very good, and generally don’t see the need to purchase additional sleeves to make the game even better. That being said, I do love sleeving my Leder Games titles because of how much use they have been getting, so I think that makes sense for me. But if you played these a bit more casually, perhaps a few times per year, then you’ll be very OK with the card quality provided by the publisher.

The game does have a few pieces that will get board game enthusiasts excited. The little wooden ships that each player gets to use are really interesting. I think Leder Games could have gone with a much more generic space ship piece, but these are uniquely shaped in ways I haven’t seen other ships – it allows this game to stand out, to a point that within a year or two, I can look at that ship and say, “That’s from Arcs.” The little pawn figures are a bit more generic, but still really great quality and look great on the table.

The battle dice are also really nice. I love how the different colors pop against the backdrop of the darker space theme, and they are all very clear and feel great in the hands. Honestly, the entire game pops. The artwork across all the elements are phenomenal, nothing short of spectacular, which is what I’ve come to expect from Leder Games. This is a game I cannot wait to get to the table – it looks fantastic, and spoiler alert – it plays fantastic too!
