Outside of the recent #gamergate controversy, video game news is often very predictable. You know a few days or weeks before a game launch you'll have reviews to read, at the end of each month you will have console and software numbers to debate about, and every so often you'll get a nice dose of wacky, and sometimes wonderful, news. The last few weeks seem to be full of wacky and wonderful gaming news.

What's makes a good horror game? Does it need monsters? Does it need to be set in the dark? Is The Last of Us a horror game or does the genre exist beyond its separate elements? These are just some of the questions that Joe Ryan, Allison Hill and Mat Growcott try to crack on this week's GRCast. Scary games used to be ten a dime, but times have changed and now they're mostly coming from indie publishers. Can they make a full come back, and will Oculus Rift play a role in its revival?

There have been a lot of South Park games over the last two decades and they've all be leading up to The Stick of Truth. Never before has there been a game that so accurately captures the show, both in construction, visuals and attitude. It's been a long time since we were fighting killer turkeys with snowballs, or answering questions with Chef, but those of us who've been burned before definitely need to take a second look.

The nominees for Spike VGX awards have been announced, with Grand Theft Auto V receiving the most nominations. Formerly known as Spike Video Game Awards, VGX will take place on December 7th, this time giving the fans a chance to voice their opinion by voting for their favorites on the official website.
