Mario and Luigi

In my preview for Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser's Jr's Journey I mentioned that I had never played Bowser's Inside Story before. So when it came time to do my review, I decided to not compare the game to the original. In fact, I decided to not compare the game to previous Mario & Luigi games at all. Basically I wanted to ask: Is Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey a good game(s)?

Despite the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, they are still the most powerful handheld gaming company on the planet, and with so many great titles released in 2017, we decided to highlight a few that you might want to purchase for that video game fan in your life. While this list is in no particular order, they are the games we felt were the best of 2017! Check them all out below!

With the upcoming release of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga on the Nintendo 3DS - available at retail and on the Nintendo eShop on October 6 - I started wondering what other great Nintendo Gameboy Advanced titles we could possibly see remastered on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems in the near future. Many people have been calling for the death of the Nintendo 3DS ever since the Nintendo Switch launched, citing a variety of reasons, most predominantly that Nintendo should focus their time and money on the Switch. I disagree.

My six year old son Logan loves video games, and is falling into step with his dad nicely in that regard. He likes Mario, he likes Animal Crossing, and he loves the odd family friendly game on my Xbox One. Last night, I found him curled up in his bed - after hours mind you - playing Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam. Despite my frustrations with him A) sneaking my 3DS into his bed, and B) still being awake at 10:30 at night, I couldn't help but ask him what he thought.

Paper Mario games are great, although have been trending downwards since the release of The Thousand Year Door on the GameCube. The last release, Sticker Star, was lackluster to say the least, borrowing heavily from the 2D Super Mario games heavily by removing the 'open world' and replacing it with Worlds and Levels, i.e. World 1-Level 1. On the other hand, Mario and Luigi games have always been strong titles, and even Dream Team - despite its various faults and pacing issues - was still an excellent release. Mario and Luigi titles have been one of my favorite Mario franchises. My other favorite franchise? Paper Mario. In my personal opinion, the last release for each - Mario and Luigi: Dream Team and Paper Mario: Sticker Star where somewhat of a let down. Dream Team was good, yes, but Sticker Star was pretty bad. Frankly, I had little hope for Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam.
