Lord of the Rings

The massive and immersive world of J.R.R. Tolkiens Middle-earth series has spawned successful movie series, music pieces, toys, and several video games as well. The fantasy universe is both so immense and so detailed that each adaption has the opportunity to explore a different area and time period than the others. The newest variation to join this long line of success is the new action RPG game, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. This open world fantasy extravaganza received great hype before its release date was even known, and the games arrival did not disappoint.

Shadow of Mordor was revealed a few weeks ago for next-gen systems, current-gen systems and PC, and while it sounded pretty damn impressive, there was little to actually judge it by. Other than a few interesting gameplay features that might end up being less impressive than they sound, there wasn't even really a picture. That changed earlier this week when a handful of screens were released, showing off both the player character, his techniques and a handful of enemies.

I'm sure there was a lot of scoffing when they announced the original LEGO Star Wars. Taking a toy license that was based off of a movie license and digitizing it must have seemed like the worst idea in the world, spawning a shoddy mess for children who have no idea what a good game is. Funnily enough, the exact opposite occurred and a gaming phenomenon was born. Now there have been approximately a billion LEGO games since then, all as fun and addictive as the last, and LEGO Lord of the Rings is the latest game in Traveller's Tales quite literal blockbuster series.
