Far Cry

Far Cry is easily one of our favourite franchises here at GamesReviews.com, so naturally we are as excited as anyone else about the prospect of playing Far Cry New Dawn in the next few weeks. Much has been made about the game simply being a clone of Far Cry 5, and while you will trek around the same, things look and feel very differently. On top of that, Ubisoft is releasing this as a budget title, so you won't pay the regular 59.99 or 79.99!

When I heard there was going to be Far Cry 5 DLC coming, I assumed that at the most, we would be exploring a different part of the United States that was also being threatened by a cult, and at the least, we would have more adventures within Hope County, Montana. I was incredibly misinformed and flat out wrong, as the newest DLC pack for Far Cry 5 - launching June 5th - will transport players to Vietnam!

When a franchise gets into it's 4th or 5th title, sometimes bad habits or complacency sets in and what consumers ultimately get at retail is a paired down, lackluster experience that disappoints in many ways. Ubisoft themselves have been partially guilty of this, especially when you look back on releases like Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed Unity. However, this is a company that has learned from the past, and the recent release of Assassin's Creed Origins is proof that Ubisoft knows how to create fantastic experiences. Far Cry Primal isn't even out yet, but the hype is very real. And for good reason, since the Far Cry series is one of the best current franchises this generation. However, the more we play a franchise, the greater the opportunity for stagnation, or for extreme boredom to set in. Despite the success of Far Cry 4, this seemed to be a constant narrative. "Far Cry doesn't feel fresh." So now we get Primal, a very different and very fresh take on the series, and it could not have come at a better time.

Eurogamer have leaked information on the next Far Cry game, confirming that it'll be very similar to Far Cry 3 but set in a snowier region. Far Cry 4 has been no secret, and was revealed by Ubisoft almost as soon as Far Cry 3 was released, although specific details have yet to be released. With this new leak, we've learnt an awful lot about the next title in the franchise, including when we're likely to catch out first glimpse.

The original Far Cry was a top release back in the day, helped by about a trillion free demo disks and some rather clever design choices. The original Far Cry never actually made it to consoles, instead replaced by a similar but less hardware intensive Far Cry Instincts. That changes this week, with the release of Far Cry Classic on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
