Final Chapter in Echoes of the Unread’s Video Dev Blog Focuses on Characters and Story

With less than one week left in the game’s Kickstarter campaign, Echoes of the Unread creator Matt Tuttle details his journey bringing the game’s colorful cast of characters and story to life

Pittsburgh, PA – June 6, 2025 – With just days left in the Kickstarter campaign for Echoes of the Unread, Mega Cat Studios and Clever Cat Games have released the final chapter of the game’s developer video blog series, offering fans a deeper look into the NES title’s story and characters.

While the previous video focused on the technical hurdles of bringing the game to Nintendo’s classic 8-bit hardware, this installment dives into the emotional inspiration behind the narrative. Game creator Matt Tuttle reflects on the isolation he experienced during the COVID-19 lockdowns—feelings that shaped the game’s themes and its central characters. That sense of confinement became the backbone of Echoes of the Unread, as Rhapsody and the enigmatic kid magician Odele each seek to escape a mysterious library and reclaim their freedom.

The video also introduces several of the characters Rhapsody will meet during her journey through magical storybook worlds. From the wise librarian Mavis and the enchanting Mermaid Serenade, to Nocturne the vampire and his loyal pup Fang who dwell in the game’s haunted graveyard, Echoes of the Unread promises a cast of colorful companions.

Watch the full video below to meet the characters and explore the story behind Echoes of the Unread.

If you want to secure your copy, you’ll want to do so soon. The Kickstarter campaign for Echoes of the Unread ends next Monday, June 16th. While the game was fully funded in just 24 hours, two stretch goals remain, with hopes to bring Rhapsody’s enchanted adventure to Switch and Steam digitally next year

About Echoes of the Unread:

Developed by Clever Cat Games and published by Mega Cat Studios, Echoes of the Unread puts players in the shoes of Rhapsody, a young girl who, after falling asleep while studying in the library, awakens to a strange world where the books have come to life and her voice has the power to shape the world around her with song.

To find her way back home, Rhapsody must step into the pages of these tales and explore a variety of imaginative realms where they’ll befriend a cowboy, serenade a mermaid, outsmart a mischievous ghost, and sing mystical melodies to escape the clutches of the wicked magician Odele, who hopes to keep her trapped in the library forever.
