WiZmans World Re; Try Review

WiZmans World Re; Try was originally on the DS and has now been ported over to the Nintendo Switch. Is this DS rpg worth a look on Nintendo Switch? Here’s our review!

In WiZmans World, a young boy is found in a forest by a wizard. No one is supposed to live in that forest and the people in town can’t go beyond the forest so they don’t know whats in the wider world. The wizard raises the boy and when he’s old enough, the man is charged with exploring the forest and trying to go beyond it to find out what the world is like. Perhaps he’ll even find out who he is? Possibly!

The story is WiZmans World is good but its not really too different from what we’ve seen in other jrpgs. And once the game gets going, its a bit more focused on the exploration and combat.

WiZmans World Re; Try is an old school turn-based rpg. The battle system is pretty basic with the normal attack, magic, defend, item, etc setup. The only thing that it does a little different is that you can chain attacks for a little more damage against the enemies. Other than that, the battle system is just like every other rpg we’ve seen on DS and many other systems. Not a bad thing, if you like rpgs, then you may like this system a lot.

The game is not an open world rpg however. There is no overworld map, instead when you leave the main hub town you find a static map and just go to the next area, much like a strategy rpg game like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. You can run around the hub town and the dungeons. There are people to talk to in town and sometimes in the dungeons. Of course there are a lot of enemies in the dungeons too, but there are no random battles. You see all the enemies around and can avoid them. Thats pretty cool.

You do end up getting, early on, some helpers and you’ll be able to change them and make them into stronger allies. Its a little bit like evolving a Pokémon, but not exactly. Its the same three allies, just combining them with souls of enemies you come across. Its neat addition to the game

WiZmans World isn’t on the level of a game like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Its an easy game to jump into even if you haven’t played an rpg, however we think that its probably a game that will be for hardcore rpg fans only. If you need a new rpg to play, you definitely could do worse than this game. And the graphics, while looking like a DS game, still don’t look too bad.

WiZmans World looks like a DS game still, but some of the character and enemy designs are pretty good. This is definitely game that you’ll want to play in handheld mode on your Switch because it feels like a handheld game rather than a console game.

Overall, WiZmans World Re: Try is a good game. Its not the best rpg you’ll find on the Switch, but it has some interesting elements like combining souls and a story that rpg fans will enjoy. If you need a new rpg to play, you might want to consider WiZmans World.
