Nintendo Confident in Pokémon Pokopia – My Takeaways from Nintendo Treehouse: Live

If there is one thing Nintendo showed me during the Nintendo Treehouse: Live event on February 24th it wasn’t just all the great stuff coming to Pokémon Pokopia; it was that Nintendo is incredibly proud of what they have created, and confident it’s going to resonate with Pokémon and Nintendo Switch fans. Nintendo spent a long time looking at Pokémon Pokopia, and I find they only do this when they know they have something REALLY special.

This goes hand-in-hand with providing a lot of media members an early look at the game earlier this year. These are all good signs, and Nintendo Switch fans and Pokémon fans should feel confident in this new release coming on March 5, 2026.

Here are a few of the highlights of the Pokémon Pokopia portion of the Nintendo Treehouse: Live:

Nintendo is drawing early Pokémon fans in by making the first three Pokémon you get Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander.

Nintendo is using a similar day-night cycle to Animal Crossing – depending on when you play and your Nintendo Switch 2’s clock, it will be either day or night. Certain Pokémon can only be found at certain times of day, and during certain weather events!

The real time clock applies to some buildings as well. In the Treehouse: Live demonstration, when building the Leaf Den, the Nintendo representative said it would take real time (about 15 minutes) to build; I wonder if this clock continues even if you don’t have the game on.

This game feels like a mixture of Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest Builders. Originally, I kept telling my son, “It’s Pokémon Minecraft!” but the more I think about it, it’s more Animal Crossing (crafting, decorating, day-night cycle, etc) and Dragon Quest Builders, where you put certain blocks/grasses/trees in an area to create a building or location. I absolutely LOVED both Dragon Quest Builders games, so that probably means I’ll enjoy this a lot as well!

Repetition of tasks seems like it could be a problem?

Nintendo is doing quality of life improvements before the game even launches. If you place a bin next to a crafting bench, you can use items from the bin when crafting, instead of having to have these items in your inventory! These feel like updates we have to wait for, so nice to see this including from the get-go!

There is lots to collect! Not only are you finding Pokémon and habitats, but you also can get an item to help you with searching and finding collectibles! Thankfully, the Nintendo representatives didn’t ruin any of the surprises!

Up to two players can join multiplayer via GameShare, and it can be shared with players playing on Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon Pokopia launches on March 5, 2026.
