Kevin Austin has been in gaming journalism in one way or another since the launch of the Nintendo Gamecube. Married and father of 3 children he has been gaming since the ripe age of 6 when he got his first NES system and over 30 years later he is still gaming almost daily. Kevin is also co-founder of the Play Some Video Games (PSVG) Podcast network which was founded over five years ago and is still going strong. Some of his favorite gaming series includes Fallout and Far Cry, he is a sucker for single player adventure games (hence his big reviews for Playstation), and can frequently be found getting down in one battle royale or another. If it's an oddball game, odds are he's all about it.

New details on Pokemon Snap

During today’s Pokemon Direct, we got a few more details on New Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo Switch due on April 30th. The original title came out in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 and my wife (girlfriend) at the time and I spent countless hours running through Pokemon Island to get the best scores possible and fill up our Pokedex. Because the ’90s was also super gimmicky we even went to Blockbuster Video to print out some stickers of our…

Control Series X Impressions

Despite being a critical darling in 2019, I completely slept on Control during its initial release. As a primarily PlayStation gamer in the past, I’d never played any of Remedy’s previous games. Fast forward to now and playing the Series X version of , I can’t believe I skipped the game previously. But I’m also glad to be playing the best possible console version of the game. The core setup of the game reminds me of one of my favorite…

Cyber Shadow Impressions

There is a tipping point — different for every gamer — where the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze in a game. I reached that point in Yacht Games’ newly released Cyber Shadow a little more than halfway through.   The game demands precise platforming and measured combat, harshly punishing even slight errors. There is so much to like about the game, but after running through the same section 20 30 40 times, I broke. I turned off the game…

Life of Fly Impressions (Xbox Series)

Life of Fly features 12 short stories each revolving around the life and weird thoughts of another fly. Be prepared to experience some very unusual content, some interesting thoughts that go way beyond the normal life of a fly, and some entertaining short stories with a twist. Just the description of the game alone sounded weird enough to interest me. In this game as mentioned above, you take on the role of one of twelve different flies and take each…

Oneiros Impressions (XBox Series)

In Greek mythology, dreams were personified as Oneiros, something I didn’t know going into this game but now that I’ve completed it makes perfect sense. In Oneiros you play as Liam. Liam wakes up late just like any other day, but something just feels different. Doors to his room are locked, the laptop’s hacked, the phone’s broken, and something just doesn’t feel right. The place definitely looks like his room, but at the same time, ...

Nioh 2: The First Samurai DLC Impressions

I have spent quite a bit of time this year getting my hands dirty with Nioh 2 and it’s expansions. Much of which has been an enjoyable experience into a game style I typically don’t enjoy much. The final DLC expansion came out last week titled The First Samurai. The First Samurai expansion will add the “Dream of Nioh” difficulty, along with new Guardian Spirits. The DLC expansion will also feature new yokai for players to encounter, such as the…

Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks Impressions

Minecraft Dungeons was a revelation for me earlier this year. It took a style of game I love — Diablo 3 is one of my favorite games of last-gen — and combined it with a property I couldn’t care less about. Would I care about a kid-ified version of a loot-based dungeon crawler? The answer to this rhetorical question was a resounding “yes!” I couldn’t stop playing the game until I beat it, again and again, going through the core…

John Wick Hex Review

John Wick Hex really clicked for me when, after clearing a level, I watched it back “in real-time,” versus the time-based strategic puzzle-combat gameplay. Watching the titular hero make his way through a street, punching, rolling, kicking, and shooting adversaries in under 10 seconds is a lot of fun. Of course, 10 seconds in “real-time” translates to about 5 minutes of gameplay, as the player tries to orchestrate all of Wick’s maneuvers.   The game — ...
