Honest Reviews. Smarter Play

NBA 2K26 Overview

NBA 2K26 takes a major visual leap forward. Just when I thought it couldn’t get more realistic you can see sweat, muscle definition, and even the fine stitching on jerseys which is incredible. Arena lighting and court details have also been upgraded showing off the polished wood, spotlights, and even smoke haze arenas feel more alive than ever. Crowds are different as well, using more unique body types, clothing options, and interactive fan behaviors make each game feel like a real NBA night.

The biggest change this year is the ProPLAY Motion Engine, which allows for more fluid, realistic movement. Dribbling has been overhauled; you can chain escape crosses, misdirections, new behind the back and snatchback moves. Finishing at the rim also feels more customizable instead of a fixed layup package, you can mix and match animations, giving your MyPlayer a more unique style. MyPlayer is my favourite part of the game.

Slam Dunk

There is lots to do in NBA 2K26 with a mode for everyone. Here are some of the options you have.

  • MyCareer: A staple to the game the only problem I have is you need virtual currency to be competitive.
  • MyTeam: One of the standout new features for the first time, WNBA players are fully integrated into MyTEAM, letting you build mixed rosters of NBA and WNBA stars which is a nice touch
  • The City: The hub is more compact and accessible, streamlining how you navigate and get into games or events. Go and explore.
  • MyNBA / MyLeague: As a GM style mode, it’s solid you can influence the future of a franchise with 30 unique storylines. It’s always fun building a dynasty through the draft.

On Xbox Series X|S, the game supports up to 120 FPS, and offers 4K + HDR, giving very smooth and sharp performance which I found playing in several modes. Load times feel much faster, and general responsiveness is greatly improved compared to older 2K titles.

Blocked

Some aspects I don’t like about NBA 2K26 are as always, the Microtransactions are still a big problem for me. Progression in MyCAREER and MyTEAM feels deliberately slow if you don’t spend VC (virtual currency) AI inconsistencies are sometimes present. Teammates can act strangely standing idle, missing rotations, or taking bad shots.

Final Thoughts

NBA 2K26 on Xbox is a strong entry in the franchise. The improvements to animation, dribbling, finishing, and presentation make games feel more authentic and cinematic than before. The integration of WNBA players in MyTEAM is a major win, adding variety and depth.

That said, the game isn’t perfect. Persistent microtransaction pressure, occasional and steep complexity may turn off some players but the more you play it’s easy to get used to.
