Honest Reviews. Smarter Play

Xenoblade Chronicles – The Franchise I Cannot Wait for on Nintendo Switch 2

I’ve been a Nintendo fan for as long as I can remember, and being a fan of Nintendo means you probably gravitate towards specific games. For me, that’s anything Mario related. While I’m less of a fan of the Mario 2D entries, if a Mario game gets released there is a 99.9% chance that I’m going to play it. Reviewing games for the past decade has helped, but even if I didn’t, they would almost all be day one purchases for me. Yet, despite that love for Mario, there is actually a different franchise I cannot wait to play on Nintendo Switch 2 – Xenoblade.

When the original Xenoblade Chronicles released, I actually wasn’t all the interested in the systems or the story. Graphically, the game was a mixed bag for me, and I passed on it without giving it much thought. With the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, however, and it’s much more cheerful visuals all around, I was really intrigued and dove headfirst into that experience and got lost. To date, I think I’ve played the main story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 twice, if not three times, and that love just extended into all future Xenoblade chronicles releases, even the remastered first game.

The Xenoblade Chronicles franchise has always pushed the boundaries of Nintendo’s consoles, and while I do think these games could have a really nice life on other platforms – especially the PlayStation 5 – they’ve continue to be released exclusively on Nintendo systems. While the Nintendo Switch 2 is still lagging behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in terms of the limits of video game development, it is a lot more powerful than the original Nintendo Switch. For years, Monolith Soft has pulled out all the stops on Nintendo platforms, pushing consoles to their absolute limits while still producing a fantastic product.

Can you imagine what they could do with the Nintendo Switch 2? While I fully expect to get another remaster of a previous Xenoblade experience, I wonder what new game might be coming. And I hope that is sooner rather than later!
