Turtle Beach Rematch Wireless Controller – Nintendo Switch

A few months ago, Turtle Beach sent over one of their newest Nintendo Switch Rematch Wireless controllers, and after using it a ton over the past few weeks, mostly reviewing Pokémon Legends Z-A, we are really impressed!

The parity for controller quality across the industry right now is pretty close. Unless you are ordering a cheaply made, mass produced controller from Temu or the like, you are going to get a really solid product that works as intended. For the most part, that is what you get here from Turtle Beach. The Rematch controller feels great in the hands, has really great feedback on the buttons, triggers feel phenomenal, and the bluetooth connection is always really strong.

This isn’t quite the same as putting money down on an official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller 2, but that’s not exactly what Turtle Beach is going for. That controller will cost you well over $100 CAD after taxes, has Nintendo’s new built-in C button for GameChat, and more. Turtle Beach wants to replicate that experience as much as possible, but at a more affordable price.

The Rematch Wireless controller is made to work on the original Nintendo Switch without issue, so you won’t find that new Nintendo C button anywhere on the controller. For some this might come as a disappointment, but for many this won’t be a big issue. I think GameChat is phenomenal the few times I’ve used it, but I never find myself needing to use it that often. So a C Button is incredibly unnecessary for me, making this cheaper controller a better option for my family.

These controllers also come in a variety of great designs as well. I got to try out the brand new Mario design, but there is a really cool Donkey Kong inspired controller as well, which would pair nicely with Donkey Kong Bananza if you are looking to purchase someone a gift this holiday season! I’m not as thrilled by the feel of the controller face – yes, I know you aren’t actually touching the face of the controller that often, but I definitely prefer a glossy or matte plastic texture over whatever this is called – no, I’m not being dismissive, I actually don’t know the official term.

Lenticular! That’s it, and I don’t like it.

That aside, I have really no complaints about this controller. It’s a bit lighter than I would prefer, but otherwise I think it functions really well. I love the designs that Turtle Beach use on their Nintendo Controllers – it’s what made me go out and print some stands for them. When not in use, they make great desk decorations, and always draw the eyes of people coming to visit. Further, controllers can be really expensive, so to have a few handheld controllers for Mario Kart tournaments is great, and I’m not breaking the bank to have them either. Right now at Walmart Canada, I can grab two of these controllers for the pierce of one official pro controller!

Although I generally am not into programmable buttons, this one has two on the backside of the controller. If that’s your thing, programing these is pretty simple and you can almost do any combination of buttons you want. The controller also has motion control built in, which is a feature you might not think you want until you are aiming around in Zelda – then it is phenomenal! These, as well as other features, make this controller an easy one to recommend.
