Star Wars Outlaws Nintendo Switch 2 First Impressions

Star Wars Outlaws is now on the Nintendo Switch 2. We’ve been playing it lately for review and have some first impressions of the game.

Full disclosure: I’m a huge fan of Star Wars. I love most of the movies, all of the tv shows (yes even Boba Fett), and my favorite Star Wars anything is Rebels, the animated series. So when Star Wars Outlaws was revealed I really wanted to play it. I had previously played a demo of the game on Xbox and liked it but hadn’t had a chance to play the full game. And then recently, I got a review code for the game on Nintendo Switch 2. How is the game so far?

I absolutely love Star Wars Outlaws! This game is so much fun. The sales pitch for the game if you’ve never played it: Outlaws is Star Wars meets Uncharted. You’ll be climbing up on stuff a lot, hanging from ledges and sneaking around just like Nathan Drake in Uncharted. You’ll also occasionally find yourself in caves and “tomb” like areas. Outlaws is more open “worlds” than Uncharted, letting you visit multiple worlds. I’ve been to three worlds so far. The first world was pretty big. The second one was more limited to the town. I’m not sure about this third world but I’m hopeful about it since its a classic Star Wars world!

I love exploring in this game. You find some stuff just lying about, plus your companion alien animal Nix can steal stuff for you. You are playing a Han Soloish character in this game after all. You also have a speeder for getting around quick in open areas and a spaceship.

The spaceship, at the moment, isn’t super fast but it looks like you can upgrade it. I hope it does get faster. The controls for the ship are good, though I definitely like the walking around and climbing controls the best. This game does remind me that I suck at stealth. I’m getting caught a lot in this game. I just keep trying again and eventually get it. There is just so much to do in this game!

There are so many upgrades for weapons, clothes, your ship, speeder and more. There are mini-games to find, including ones that look like old retro arcade games. Star Wars Outlaws has a ton of sidequests already too. I am so very addicted to this game.

And you may be wondering: but how does it run on the Switch 2? So far, it runs really great. I had one time that I got thrown out of the game due to an error but I haven’t noticed any major framerate issues. There are occasionally pop-ins or weird moments with the main character’s hair but otherwise the game looks fantastic on the Switch 2. When the action gets going, I haven’t noticed any slowdown so far. I’m very impressed by how Outlaws looks and runs on Switch 2.

i can’t wait to play even more of this game. Stay tuned for my full review of Star Wars Outlaws for Nintendo Switch 2!
