Final Fantasy Tactics: The Classic Returns Tomorrow
Back in 1998, a game called Final Fantasy Tactics came to the PlayStation 1. The game was different from other Final Fantasy games: it was a tactical strategy game instead of a turn-based rpg like the rest. It went on to become a true classic and spawned two sequels. And tomorrow it returns as Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles!
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles comes out tomorrow, September 30th, 2025 for modern consoles and PC. There are two games included in the Chronicles: the original Final Fantasy Tactics with the “War of the Lions” translation and a new remastered version of the PlayStation 1 classic.
The original has the translation of the PSP “War of the Lions” but does not include the PSP content such as extra characters that were in that version. Its basically just the PS1 game with the PSP’s translated story. Meanwhile the new remastered version features voice acting, new cut-scenes, new translated story, a brand-new interface for the tactical battles, new menus, and more. I’m really happy that Square Enix included both versions of the game. I do wish the PSP extra characters were included but honestly you can’t wrong with the PS1 version which is the classic one. I loved that version and it was my Dad’s favorite game ever.
I still can’t believe that we are getting a fully voiced version of Final Fantasy Tactics. Its going to be so exciting to hear that story come to life. I also like the new tactical interface for battles, and the updated menu system looks amazing. I love how the changing of jobs looks and assigning abilities. It looks better than ever. I can’t wait to check out this game.
For me, the most exciting thing about this re-release is that the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, with a free Switch 2 upgrade! Playing this game on Switch means a lot to me.
