“No Plans” for The Last of Us PlayStation 4
Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli has said that there a PlayStation 4 version of The Last of Us is not in development, and, in fact, there are “no plans” to release a next-gen version of the critical hit. This will disappoint quite a few people who were looking to double dip, although there’s no doubt at some point The Last of Us will be playable on PS4 (either through a 1080p/60FPS re-release, or via Gaikai).
That doesn’t mean it isn’t ever going to happen or that it isn’t happening now. Rockstar have also said they won’t be making a PC/next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V, which is a pretty blatant lie. With new DLC on the horizon and new copies still selling well at retail, it would be a mistake to announce a new, improved version.
Monacelli commented at the PlayStation blog, where he was asked about a next-gen version of The Last of Us. He was also asked if there would be extra trophies for the multiplayer DLC.
Right now that’s the situation…only SP trophies and no MP ones. We might add MP ones with the 3rd drop but not sure yet.
The Last of Us released earlier this year to critical acclaim and financial success. News of The Last of Us 2 or of a re-release would definitely be welcomed by fans.
