Fantastic Beasts – New Harry Potter Film – Will have Video Game Tie-in
There’s a new Harry Potter film in development, and Warner Bros. have confirmed that they’ll be spreading the licence over the whole of their digital properties as well. There’ll be new additions to the Pottermore service, as well as a brand new video game.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be an original film based on the Comic Relief book released a few years ago. With a new set of characters, it’s neither a prequel or a sequel to the Harry Potter films themselves, although you can guarantee that Warner Brothers will want to stress the connection as best as they can. I’m thinking Hobbit-like cameos from old cast members.
The film (and video game) will follow the adventures of Newt Scamander, author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and will begin in New York some 70 years before Harry Potter’s birth. Characters and monsters from the books will make an appearance in the new film, although which characters – Nicolas Flamel? – has yet to be announced.
Fantastic Beasts will be the first in a new run of movies, so expect a whole franchise of games to be available to buy in a decade’s time. Here’s hoping that they retain the high quality and depth of the Harry Potter tie-ins…
