Coolrom Hacked
A hacker has done what years of anti-piracy could not and has knocked out one of the most popular emulation websites on the internet.
Coolrom has been knocked out by someone calling themselves Chloroform. Chloroform got rid of everything on the Coolroms page, instead playing a short piece of music and linking you to the Sinisterly forums. Sinisterly is a forum for people that enjoy coding, hardware, anime and more. Coolrom, which is ranked within the top 5000 sites on the web by Alexa, is currently completely inaccessible, with no information as to when (or even if) the site will make its return.
As an indicator as to just how many hits Coolrom is losing at the moment, the forum stats for Sinisterly says there have been only 30 recognised members and nearly 5000 guests. The Sinisterly logo on the coolroms site automatically forwards you to Sinisterly after a few seconds.
Little else has been said about the hack. It seems it might just have been for a laugh, for something to brag about, which seems an odd reason to do something like this. Still, it’s likely to be a minor inconvenience for Coolrom’s many users, and no doubt they’ll be able to get back to pirating 30 year old games very shortly.
Update
Coolrom is now back, although as of this update there are a few things not working.
