Phil Fish Locks Twitter Account, Fez II “Cancelled”
You might have heard about the Gametrailers video in which Marcus Beer called out several indie developers, including Fez creator Phil Fish, over their reaction to the Xbox One indie turnaround. Fish told him to kill himself. While many considered Beer’s criticism harsh, the over-the-top reaction was enough to turn the situation against Fish, and things seem to have happened very, very quickly.
The reaction must have been pretty bad, as, after years of saying things that have gotten him in heat, Fish has locked his twitter account. But not before sharing one last tweet.
That’s right, “Fez II is canceled.”
Of course, it seems very unlikely that Fish would cancel his next game just because he’s having a bad few days, especially when those bad few days have been borne out of his own online persona, which he never misses a chance to use to make the headlines. This almost seems like an extreme version of that – “Nobody can have my game!” Smash, Twitter account gone.
The alternative is that Fez II really is cancelled. Considering the length of time that it took for the original Fez to come out, it seems a shame that we may not get to see where Fish had planned to take it next.

Update
Fish has issued a statement confirming that he isn’t cancelling Fez II because of, in his words, “some boorish fuck,” but because he has had enough with the entire industry.
“Fez 2 is cancelled. I am done. I take the money and I run. This is as much as I can stomach. This isn’t the result of any one thing, but the end of a long, bloody campaign. You win.”
It’s interesting that despite everything that has happened today, despite the fact that he feels everybody is against him, he still manages to call the man he told to kill himself a boorish fuck. Take that, I suppose, as you will.
