The Disney Afternoon Collection Review
Previously, The Disney Afternoon Collection had been on other systems, such as the PlayStation 4, but it had never been on the Nintendo Switch. Until now that is. Finally The Disney Afternoon Collection is available on the Switch and it arrives with two additional games in it. Is it worth checking out on Nintendo Switch? Here’s our review!

The Disney Afternoon Collection on Nintendo Switch features eight games: Ducktales 1 and 2, Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers 1 and 2, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, and Bonkers. All of these games are based on Disney 80s/90s cartoons that aired in the afternoon. Most of the games are from the NES. The two new games, not previously available in this collection, Goof Troop and Bonkers, are from the SNES.
The collection features four categories when you start it: Games, Music, Gallery, and Options. In Games, you’ll be able to scroll through all eight games via their covers and select a game to play. Music lets you scroll through the covers and play the music from each game.

Gallery features four categories: Pencil to Pixel, Museum, Odds and Ends, and Original artwork and they let you look at various behind the scenes material from the different games. Options only gives you the ability to switch language, check out the credits or check the button configuration. Each of the various games have their own options too!
The two Ducktales games, the Chip N Dales, Darkwing Duck and Bonkers are all platformers (though Darkwing also has shooting). Talespin is a side scrolling shooter and Goof Troop is an overhead adventure game similar to Zelda. Each game plays like they did on the original NES/SNES, though button configuration via the individual games will let you customize the gameplay to your liking. You can also choose filters, how big the screen size is and if there’s a border. The best feature though: you can save at anytime! This makes jumping into and out of each game easy.
There’s also a rewind feature, which we love because it will erase your mistakes. Most of the games, except Goof Troop and Bonkers, have Time Attack and Boss Rush modes along with the classic game. There’s a lot of content to be had with this collection! Digital Eclipse who did the amazing Atari 50, Tetris Forever, Mortal Kombat Legacy and other collections did this one too. You can tell its their collection even though you can also tell its an earlier effort.

All of the games look and run well in this collection. That said, the timeline that Digital Eclipse put together for Atari 50 is not available with this one because Disney Afternoon Collection was an earlier collection by the developer. Its still a very well put together collection, even though it lacks the polished, organized presentation of newer efforts. And it doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as Atari 50, Tetris Forever, Mortal Kombat or even Rayman 30th Anniversary. There’s no documentary footage in Disney Afternoon.
Overall, The Disney Afternoon Collection is a wonderful treat, especially if you were a fan of the games, the cartoons or both when you were a kid. There is so much nostalgia here. Yes you can play the collection if you are not familiar with the games or the cartoons, but fans of both will appreciate it more. The collection is pretty much what it was on the PS4, other than the two added games and some extra bonus material. Its too bad it wasn’t updated with the more current Digital Eclipse timeline. Its still well worth checking out though. We loved it.
