Gran Turismo movie rumoured to be in production
A feature adaptation of the best selling racing simulator Gran Turismo is rumoured to be in production by Sony Pictures with ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey‘ producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti at the helm.
The rumour started earlier when TheWrap.com posted the story, but gave no source or indication as to where they got their info from so take this with a hefty grain of salt.
The possibility of a Gran Turismo movie does seem a bit ‘out there‘ to say the least. The biggest requirement for a successful movie is a story, yet Gran Turismo is everything but story driven. With many PlayStation IPs simply begging to be given the big screen make-over such as God Of War, it begs the question why Sony chose a racing simulator to be their flagship movie tie-in. Although it wouldn’t be the first film based on a racing game. A Need For Speed movie is currently being filmed with Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul playing the lead character.
Gran Turismo has sold over 70 million units to date which puts it well within the ‘popular enough to be a movie‘ brackets, but the big question is how would a racing simulator translate on film?
