Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade (Switch 2) Review
Once upon a time, a game called Dragon Quest 7 released on the PlayStation instead of the Nintendo 64. Dragon Quest games up until that point had been exclusive to Nintendo. Suddenly, Final Fantasy was Sony’s baby. Flashforward to now and Final Fantasy 7, the original, is available on Switch 1 and 2 and now Final Fantasy 7 Remake has arrived on Switch 2. Here’s our review!

In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the classic story of Cloud Stife, a mercenary who joins a freedom fighter group to help save the world, is remade. Well, partly remade. This game is only part of the original FF7 story. This game ends where the original truly started to open up. It feels like only the prologue of a much larger game. Even so, Remake does all the characters justice and is a fun revisit to Midgar.
Not only that, but this version has a bonus story: you get to play as Yuffie, a young ninja who Cloud met later in the original game. In this version, she visits Midgar on a mission and gets to visit areas where Cloud and friends went in Remake and the original game. This side mission is a great addition to Remake. The story absolutely adds more value to Remake and this portion along with the main quest are wonderful to play too.
Unlike the original Final Fantasy 7, Remake is only part of a game. Though the part that is there feels like a whole game even though its not. Its a tricky balance being part of one of a three part remake, but Square Enix pulls it off. This is part one, but it still feels like a full game. There’s a lot to see and do here and the addition of Yuffie’s story, Intergrade, gives places even more to experience.

One of the best things that Square has done here is make it possible to play either Remake or Intergrade first. Though if you’ve never played Remake, then you’ll want to play that first and then Intergrade. That said, you can easily go into Intergrade if you have played the other part before. The two parts compliment each other well and you can see where they crossover story wise. And the gameplay is similar in both, though Intergrade does introduce cool differences, like upgrading weapons through a skill tree and Yuffie being able to hit items from afar like crates and switches.
One of the best things about Intergrade is that it has a mini-game called Fort Condor. The original FF7 had this mini-game too and it gets a fantastic update with a better camera viewpoint and plenty of strategy and challenge to had. We were addicted to it.
The battle system is the same with both parts of the game: a real-time battle system that will pause for menu navigation for items, spells, limit breaks, and summons. Its a pretty cool update of the classic game’s battle.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is a fantastic game. If you played Final Fantasy 7 classic, you’ll love it. If you’ve never played the original, then you should definitely play this one first. We’re really happy that this game came to Nintendo Switch and it looks and plays well for the most part.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake looks very good on Nintendo Switch 2. The graphics especially look good on television but look fine in portable too. However, its not a perfect port. There is some very noticeable pop-in of people whenever characters are running around in towns and some glitches. Though the game plays well on the Switch 2 for the most part.
Overall, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is a great port to Switch 2. Its not perfect but if you can’t play the game on PS5 or Xbox and/or you just want to play the game in handheld mode, than Switch 2 is the place to play this game. This port does give us high hopes for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Switch 2. Hopefully future updates will make Intergrade even better on the system and Rebirth will come out even better when it releases.
Though there is one final bit of warning: you should definitely have an SD card if you want to keep this game on your system. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is a 90 GB game. Its huge! So have that MicroSD card handy. This is a great game and we love that it came to Switch 2.
Thank you to Square Enix for the digital review code. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is now available on Nintendo Switch 2.
