Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch 2 Version + 3.0 Update Overview
Alongside the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Animal Crossing, there is also a significant free update for the game as well. Let’s dive into everything that is new, and stay tuned for our impressions in the next few days!

Animal Crossing New Horizons: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
Alongside what I would assume will be performance and graphical enhancements for the game, Nintendo Switch 2 owners are going to get a few added benefits after updating the game. The one I’m most excited about is the inclusion of Mouse Mode, which I assume will make creating your island so much easier than before. I’ve been a huge fan of mouse mode in other Nintendo Switch 2 games, so I’m sure this one will be great as well. I assume it will be a lot like mouse mode in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma – if that is the case, it is going to be something special!
The Megaphone is a brand new addition to the game as well. It will use the Nintendo Switch 2’s built in microphone, allowing you to call out the names of villagers and have them respond so you can find them on your island! I really hope this works with visiting villagers as well! I hate looking all over when I want to sell bugs or fish!
Up to 12 players can now visit an island at one time, up from 8! I rarely hit 8 villagers in the past, so this probably won’t be something I use often.
Animal Crossing 3.0 Update
I’m not going to talk a lot here as this will be the bulk of our review in the next couple days. I’m a bit worried about my enjoyment of this DLC as I’m not a huge fan of decorating in the game. That said, I am a sucker for new items, and the only way to purchase the items at the brand new pier hotel is to decorate rooms and earn hotel tickets! I think this is going to be a massive hit for most Animal Crossing fans, and adds more to the game than I ever imagined.

I am really excited about expanded storage, up to 9000 items, and the option for Resetti to reset areas of the island so you can avoid all that busy work yourself and just get back to redecorating. These are great quality of life improvements that will make Animal Crossing so much more enjoyable.
There are other things to chat about in the future including a new slumber world, new items and themes – LEGO and Zelda! – and more.
While I still wish a new Animal Crossing was coming soon, I’m happy to get this expansion and to squeeze just a bit more life out of a game I spent way too much time playing!
