Something is Missing with New Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Colours

Before I get to deep into this article, I want to make something abundantly clear – I love when Nintendo releases new Joy-Con controllers, and will definitely be picking these up when they launch. I play a lot of games docked with the Joy-Con 2 controllers freely in my hands, so I will get to enjoy the new light purple and light green colours. What I wonder, though, is how many people play games like me?

The new colours announced by Nintendo this week look fantastic – it’s actually my wife’s favourite two colours, so she will be super excited about this. I can’t help but wish the colour was a bit more prominent, though. Nintendo might have painted themselves into a corner when they released the stock Joy-Con 2 controllers: black shells with red and blue highlights under the joysticks and on the sides that clip into the system. I feel like they feel that aesthetic needs to be carried through their base coloured Joy-Con 2 controllers, so as we are seeing with this new announcement, we are bound to get controllers with colour under the joysticks and on the sides.

I would have wanted coloured shells; give me a light green Joy-Con 2 and a light purple Joy-Con 2 with black on the sides and under the joystick. That would be have been so much better, especially for those that play exclusively in handheld, or use the included Joy-Con 2 holder when playing docked! Again, for me I’ll get to enjoy those colours every time I play, but based on the conversations I’m having, I’m the minority! The brand new Joy-Con 2 controllers launch on February 12, 2026 and will retail for 124.99 CAD. You can find more details on Nintendo’s website!

What do you think? Are these new Joy-Con 2 controllers a hit, or do they miss the mark for you?
