The long running Assassin’s Creed series goes to Japan with the latest game and its also available on Nintendo’s newest platform, the Nintendo Switch 2. Is this game worth checking out the system? Here is our review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows for the Nintendo Switch 2!

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you mainly play as Naoe, a ninja who is on a quest for revenge. Shadows main story is very good and so are the flashbacks that are sprinkled throughout the game. Naoe is an excellent main character for this game and definitely my favorite of the series main characters. I also really love the gameplay.

As Naoe, you sneak around a lot in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Stealth is super important and rooftops are you friend. The grappling hook is a unique and very easy to use item in this game. You can also perform stealth kills with one button. Combat is easy to pull off and hard to master, even in easy mode you can be killed if you’re not careful. Collecting new equipment is important, along with resources too.

One of the coolest things about Shadows is that you can create your own headquarters in this game. You’ll have to collect resources and also sent your scouts out for help too. While making your base isn’t a main game objective, it is an activity that you’ll want to do when you can so you can gain more scouts and better equipment. There is so much to do and see in this game’s world once it opens up.

While the game is a bit linear at first, once you get your headquarters you dive into the open world and go anywhere and do anything you want. The world a lot of fun to explore. There are so many secrets! And your horse will get you around the world better than just your feet, though you can definitely just walk everywhere too if you want. There is also quick travel once you find the highest areas in towns and in encampments. This is a really fun game, though there are some drawbacks to the Switch 2 experience.

If you are playing Shadows offline, well, the game doesn’t really like that even though it is just a single player game. For some reason the game checks right away if you have internet connected it and will give you a couple of warnings from the start. Also if you accidently go into the online sections the game while playing and you are not online, the game will freeze up. Thank goodness for quick saving. Assassin’s Creed Shadows mostly runs well on the Switch 2 and looks good too, though you know it doesn’t look as good as other platforms.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks really good on the Nintendo Switch 2. You’ll definitely notice objects like trees popping in as you explore, but the developers did a pretty good job overall. Its not the best looking game on the Nintendo Switch 2 but it does look nice.

The game also sounds great on the Nintendo Switch 2, especially if you have headphones in portable mode. The music is fantastic and the voice acting is great. Assassin’s Creed Shadow is a lot of fun overall.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a great port of another excellent game in this series. Ubisoft made sure the game ran well on the Switch 2 for the most part, though we wish they’d left the online features as purely optional. While the game may look better on other platforms, getting to play this awesome game in handheld mode is a real treat. —- is such a cool main character, the story is amazing and the gameplay will hook you in. This is one of the best Assassin’s Creed game’s ever and with the Switch 2 port, you can play it on the go. Its a very big download investment but its well worth it.

A digital code was provided for this review. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now available for the Nintendo Switch 2.
