More Thoughts From Me Special Edition: Lots of Mario and Some Shocks
Today Nintendo had a Direct. It was “roughly” a 60 minute Direct. It went a little bit over an hour. I have some thoughts on the Direct: the Mario of it all, the shocks, and of course some disappointment. Here we gooooo.
Can we just talk about Mario first? I think we should talk about Mario. Today’s Nintendo Direct had a large segment on Mario. It lasted around 20 minutes. Honestly I felt like that was a bit too much time but we are getting Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 on the Switch, the new Mario Tennis game, a Mario Wonder Switch 2 edition, and a new Yoshi game. I was especially impressed by the Yoshi which looked like something I’d want to play. It has fishing even! The ultra cute look was nice too. The tease of the Mario movie was good. Actually the Mario tennis game looked neat. The Adventure mode especially. I do wish the Mario segment had been shorter but hey, its the 40th anniversary and Nintendo gave us much more than I think any of us expected.
Let’s talk about some shocks now.
We getting Donkey Kong Bannaza DLC. And its coming out TODAY. WHAT. We get to visit Donkey Kong’s island and take part in special challenges and get statues to decorate the island WOW. That looks so good. I really want this DLC and I’m not sure if I’ll be to get it. sigh. Man. WOW.
The Virtual Boy coming to NSO. Oh my god. I gasped. That was so shocking. I wish you could play them with out the headset though. I don’t think this addition to NSO will be any use to me. But hey, still, oh man. What a shock.
I also am super excited about Dragon Quest 7 getting another remake. It looks sort of HD-2D but not fully. I thought it looked really good. I love Dragon Quest and I enjoyed the 3DS remake a lot. So yes, I want this one too.
We also saw a brand new Pokemon game thats right up my alley. Pokémon Pokopia looks like a combination of Minecraft and Animal Crossing? Stardew Valley? Harvest Moon? Its basically a builder and a sim. With Pokémon! Oh my. C’mon. That looks so neat. I’m more excited for that than I am for the next full Pokemon game thats coming in October.
And of course the one more thing of it all was a new Fire Emblem game. It looks so very great. I hope I get to play it!
Nintendo also finally gave us a release date for Metroid Prime 4 and its in December. The game looks really good. The bike is awesome. I was wondering at first if that game was Metroid Prime 4. Pretty cool addition.
We also got a release date for Hyrule Warriors, which looked awesome.
There were a lot of other cool things, but lets handle the disappointment first. No Animal Crossing. I knew there was going to be no AC during this. I can’t help but still be disappointed. Though the Pokémon building game takes some of the sting out of it. Also I was expecting there to be no AC announcement. So there you go.
Other cool things shown: Dinkum is finally coming to Switch and there’s a demo out today! I must download that. There is also a demo coming today for Persona 3 Reload. I love that game and I will be downloading it for sure. We also got release dates for Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade and Resident Evil 7, 8, and 9 are all coming to Switch 2 next year too.
Oh and Tomodachi Life looks absolutely wonderful. I want it!
Overall, I thought it was a really good Nintendo Direct. Was it mind blowing? Hmm. Parts of it maybe. Maybe not overall. And there will be some people who don’t like it at all. I think Nintendo did what they do. They shocked us, they disappointed us, and…oh. Did you see how many amiibos were announced?! That was another surprise. I really want all of them.
