More Thoughts From Me Special Edition: An Okay Direct Saved by Square Enix
A Nintendo Direct aired today and it was okay. It had some good moments, but it wasn’t until the very end that there was any big surprise. Let’s talk about today’s Nintendo Direct!
Today’s Nintendo Direct just aired and….it was okay. There are going to be a lot of people who say today’s Direct sucked. I can understand why. I don’t think it totally sucked. I really liked how it started with a new Monster Hunter Stories, because I enjoy those games. I’m not a huge Monster Hunter fan but I like its Pokémon style spinoff! After that though, the Direct started to go downhill a bit.
We didn’t see Elden Ring or Final Fantasy 7 remake. We get Persona 3 Reload announced, a new trailer for Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles, and a big trailer for the new Hyrule Warriors but no release date for it, just an announcement that its coming in Winter.
Honestly, this whole Direct was saved by Square Enix. Personally I loved seeing Final Fantasy Tactics but thats not what saved things. At the very end we saw two surprise games from the company: The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales and Octopath Traveler 0. Let’s talk about The Adventures of Elliot first.
When I first saw this game, well of the course HD-2D graphics looked great but then they said it was an action game instead of turn-based and I was like Hmmm, I don’t know. The more they showed of it though, the most impressed I got. The combat looks fun, the story sounds very good, and time travel?! Sign me up! Its not coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 until next year but there is a demo coming out for it TODAY. I can’t wait to download it.
Then there’s Octopath Traveler 0. The graphics look fantastic but it was the new gameplay elements that really grabbed me. It looks like at one point you are creating a town! That surprised me! And at the end, they showed an epic battle with many characters. This game looks incredible and its coming this year. WOW.
I think Square Enix absolutely saved this Nintendo Direct. I’m not altogether sure that Nintendo should’ve done this one or at least they should’ve packed it with even bigger games. I’m very sure there are a lot of people unhappy. I’m also sure that Nintendo will more than make up for that in the next Direct, which I would guess would be September or October. Thats probably when we’ll find out when Metroid Prime 4 and other major games coming. This Direct was just an appetizer. Nintendo Switch 2 has a very bright future.
Now you’ll have to excuse me, I have to go check and see if that Elliot demo is up yet!
More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Wish there was a demo for Final Fantasy Tactics too!
