Checking Out Atari 50’s “The Wider World of Atari” DLC

Atari 50 is one of the greatest collections ever. What makes it special is that its not just a collection of older games. Atari 50 is also a museum, a timeline of videos and screenshots that tell the story of Atari over the years. And now a brand new timeline has been released! Let’s take a look.

Atari 50 was already one of the best collections ever and now “The Wider World of Atari” DLC makes it even better.

I bought the DLC last week and checked it out over the weekend. The new DLC presents a totally new timeline: starting from 1976 all the way till now, this timeline focuses on the impact of Atari before NES, after NES, and through homebrew and community impact. We get videos talking about vector graphics, homebrew games, protypes of Atari games, and more. There are also 19 new games in this timeline!

My favorite of the new games is Berzerk, a game where you shoot at robot enemies. There are several versions here of it including a sequel, but the original arcade version is my favorite. I had never played this game before this DLC! Its pretty cool.

I also really like Red Baron, a vector graphics treat of a first person flying shooter, and Destroyer, a simple yet addictive game where you bomb subs. Its also cool to see Homebrew sequels to Adventure and Haunted House

“The Wider World of Atari” is a great addition to an already great collection. The best part? The developer, Digital Eclispe, is not done yet! In November, a final DLC “The First Console Wars” is coming out. It will include games from the Intellevision system. I’ve never played any games from that system! I’m super excited about that DLC.

Thank you Digital Eclipse and Atari for making this amazing collection.

“The Wider World of Atari” DLC is available now. A new expanded physical version of the game will be coming out in November and include the two DLCs.
