Metaphor ReFantazio Demo Impressions

A demo for Metaphor ReFantazio came out recently. The day before the demo came out, I was talking about how excited I was for the game. Now that I’ve played the demo on Xbox, I can talk about what I think of it. Here are my impressions of the Metaphor ReFantazio demo!

The King is dead. Louis killed him and now he wants the throne for himself. Unknown to him and almost everyone else, the king’s son is still alive. There is a curse upon the prince and his best friend goes to find an ally to save the prince. What follows is a series of twists and turns that are shocking and kept me glued to the screen.

This is Metaphor ReFantazio’s story and I got to see more than expected in the demo. It took me a little over five hours to beat the demo. I’ve heard of people who got even longer out of it. Metaphor’s demo is huge and the full game is even bigger.

It has great graphics, especially its animated cutscenes, which help tell the story. There’s full voice acting during the cutscenes and its fantastic. So is the game’s music! I loved the turn-based battle’s theme, which I found myself nodding along to a lot. Its epic, overdramatic and completely amazing. It fits so well with the amazing battle system(s).

Metaphor has a combination of real time and turn-based battles, both of which are fun. With weaker enemies, I took them out with a few hits. With tougher ones, I went into turn-battles. The real time battles had me pressing one button over and over, while the turn-based battles had stylish menus with cool abilities that were shown off in an equally stylish manner. The two battles systems work so well together. Sometimes I hit a tough enemy and then went right into a turn-based battle! I also played on the easiest difficulty, so the battles weren’t too hard, though they still required some strategy.

Out of battle, I explored some dungeons and the first town. The town was medieval themed, very detailed, and had a lot of places to visit. The dungeons were really good, the last one especially, and it was fun to explore them and get into battles.

Metaphor’s demo is fantastic. I can see myself replaying it again soon. I also can’t wait to check out the full game!

Are you looking forward to Metaphor ReFantazio? What did you think of the demo?

Metaphor ReFantazio comes out for the Xbox Series on October 11th, 2024.
