What the Duck Review
What the Duck is a new indie action rpg that released recently for the Nintendo Switch. Is it a good game or should this duck be sent back to its pond? Here’s our review!
What the Duck is an indie action rpg where the hero decides to find his spirit animal and it turns out to be…a duck! The duck has special powers and will help you on your quest. The quest involves a meteor destroying a town and a general killing your new “friend” Helen’s mom. The game’s dialogue is full of humor and goofiness that makes it all charming. Its a good story but the gameplay is definitely better.
In What the Duck, there are a lot of things to do: from combat to exploration to switching to your duck and a neat rhythm based crafting system too. You have access to various types of weapons as the games progresses and the combat, while a bit simple, is still fun. Once you have the duck, the combat becomes a little more interesting and the duck has a lot of uses outside of battle. There are certain areas where the duck can fly into the air and also the duck can reach places that the hero can’t.
The game’s controls are pretty good for the hero but not as good for the duck. The flying can be a bit tricky and there are some more complicated duck moves that are hard to pull off. The controls could defiantly be tighter overall. Still, the game is fun and along with its goofy and charming story it also has nice graphics too.
What the Duck’s graphics are good, especially the comic book style cutscenes. The cartoony graphics definitely fit the game well. However, there are some occasional graphical glitches that hold the game back a bit. Meanwhile, the voice acting in the game ranges from pretty good to so-so. The music in the game is fine.
What the Duck is a fun game that could have tighter controls and less glitches. Still this is unique game that will hopefully find an audience do to its charm and goofy sense of humor. What the Duck is worth checking out.
