Spyra Water Gun Reviews
Water guns are something my kids really enjoy, and we’ve purchased more than a few over the past few years. We’ve had expensive water guns, and dollar store water guns. We’ve had complicated guns and really simple guns. We’ve never had an automatic gun that runs off an internal battery, however, at least not until the automatic water guns from Spyra arrived. Let’s take a look at what these things can do!
The guns have quite a bit of weight to them, which is understandable considering all the electrical components on the inside, and the oversized water chamber. The outer shell is hard plastic, and based on our usage, I’m going to assume the areas holding electrical components are water proofed for safety reasons. Over dozens of hours of use, both guns are still in pristine condition, and my kids (ages 4, 9, and 13) use the water guns unsupervised. The only thing I make sure to check is that the guns are put away in the garage each evening so they don’t stay out overnight.
Again, the weight of the gun can pose a problem for younger kids – my 4 year old Lincoln has a hard time holding the gun up AND pulling the trigger, which is understandable. My other kids had no issues holding the gun, so I would suggest kids be at least 6 years old before attempting to use the gun.
The gun itself has a number of different shooting modes including Burst, League, and Open. With the Burst mode, the gun will shoot three quick successive shots, which is great when trying to hit a moving target, while also giving them a chance to evade. In League Mode, the gun has a slower fire rate than Burst mode, but if you hold the trigger down you can charge up a shot to shoot further away. In Open mode, you can shoot water however you want!
The guns themselves go through water pretty quickly, so it’s important to have a large bin of water around for refilling. The gun fills up in just a few seconds, although those seconds can feel like a REALLY long time if you are in the midst of a water gun fight!
These devices are pretty expensive, but they come with some key features, including a fantastic battery that will shoot up-to 1000 shots. When it does die, it does take a few hours to charge via and included USB-C cable.
If you are looking for a fantastic toy for your kids this summer and are willing to pay the high price to get this specific one, we highly recommend it. The guns are a lot of fun, and are great for shooting each other, and shooting targets (our personal favourite activity). We setup targets around the lawn with different point amounts, and using 1-3 tanks of water, the kids try to see how many points they can get. It works really well, and they love it!
Thanks again to Spyra for sending these over. We will have more on these toys coming up, including some of our favourite games we’ve created specifically for use with these water guns!
