More Thoughts From Me #241: Taking Another Look

I love Square Enix and especially the rpgs that they make. Final Fantasy 12 and Octopath Traveler are two Square Enix games that I wanted to love, but I just didn’t. And now I’m taking another look at them.

I have a lot of time on my hands lately. There isn’t much on TV and I don’t have much else to do. I’ve taken a break from reviewing for personal reasons. So I am just playing a bunch of games I already own. I own a lot of games! In fact, I have a lot of games that I just own as digital only. I redownloaded two of them lately and want to talk about them.

First off, I redownloaded Final Fantasy 12 for the Nintendo Switch. My history for this game is that I’m never been a big fan of it. Yes, the graphics are nice, the character designs are nice, but the story and the battle system never hooked me. I tried twice, once on PS2 and again on the Nintendo Switch. I thought I was done. Here I am downloading and playing the game again…

And actually I’m liking the game. I did not start over. I should have but I didn’t want to start from scratch again on this game. So I went back to my save file. The graphics and character designs remain really good. And this time I am more interesting in the story and the battle system seems better. I am having problems though.

I am very under leveled. And then I level up and then I want to run through the next area and then I’m under leveled again. I really should have started from the beginning. Still, I am finding this game a bit more interesting.

And then just today, as if I don’t have enough to play, I redownloaded Octopath Traveler. This was another game that I thought had amazing visuals. I actually do like combat on this one. It was the story that I had I hard time with. Its a bit all over the place. And yet. Here I am again.

I did start over with Octopath Traveler. I picked a different character to play as. He is the character with the ability to inquire about people. I really like this ability because it tells you more about each character and unlocks some bonus stuff.

And the first party member I found was the thief, who is awesome and can steal from random NPCs. So I’m stealing a lot of stuff from NPCs. Don’t look at me like that!

So far, I am really liking the battle system even more and the menus and I’m just liking Octopath a lot for some reason. Maybe I’m just bored? I don’t know. I think I can really get into this game this time. I hope so. It looks amazing. I know its a big game and there is a lot of replay value. So I am going to give it a shot.

I want to continue playing Final Fantasy 12 also but I could see Octopath Traveler easily taking over and that just being the only game (other than Animal Crossing) that I play.

Poor Tales of Vesperia. I haven’t played that recently…

Do you like Final Fantasy 12? Do you like Octopath Traveler? Let me know what you think of these two games in the comments!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Both games have a job system, which I love.
