Nintendo Switch Online: Super Mario All-Stars Impressions

Back in the Super Nintendo days, I picked up a game called Super Mario All Stars which collected all three orignal Super Mario Bros games plus the Lost Levels. I was so excited to play it and I loved it. And now the collection is on the Nintendo Switch online service. So how is it?

Nintendo added the Super Mario All-Stars collection to the Nintendo Switch Online service today as part of the Mario 35th anniversary celebration. I’ve played it some now, so what do I think? Does the collection hold up?

Well, just to get it out of the way, I do think the main menu and a couple of the games (Mario 1 and 2) look a little blurry/fuzzy. But all of the games are very playable and still fun.

I think Super Mario Bros 3 looks the best. The enhanced visuals on that are super nice and pretty clean looking. That said Mario 1, 2, and Lost Levels are a treat. I like the enhanced look of each and they are all fun.

For the first time ever, I am so glad that Nintendo has four suspend slots. You will need all four because you’ll likely want to have a suspend save for each of the games. There is also four saves on each of the games if you want to save that way too.

I think Super Mario All-Stars is an excellent addition to Nintendo Switch online. I had forgotten just how much Nintendo upgraded these classics for the SNES. They look good! Yes, even with a little blurriness, Mario is still the king of the SNES.

Okay, I’m going to go back and play some more of these games now.

Super Mario All-Stars is now available for Nintendo Switch Online users via the Super Nintendo app for the Switch!
