More Thoughts From Me #218: I’m Not Ready For Next Gen

The PS5 and the Xbox Series X are supposed to come out this year. With everything thats happening, they might not. But lets imagine that they do come out this year. Will I be buying these new consoles? Nope. Why not? The following is my personal opinion of next gen and why I’m not ready.

Almost everyone seems to be excited for the PS5 and/or the Xbox Series X. I’m not excited at all. My interest is extremely low.

So why am I not excited about next gen?

Well, it wasn’t so long ago that I got my PS4. A couple of years ago in fact. Yes, I was very late to the game. I got the system because of Dragon Quest 11. I haven’t regretted it at all. There are so many wonderful games on the PS4. I’m currently playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake and loving it.

I have never picked up an Xbox One and don’t plan to. Microsoft systems don’t interest me right now. I did own the orignal Xbox and liked it alot. I also had a 360 and liked it. But I’m much more a Nintendo/Sony fan.

The PS5 is unlikely to have a lot of good games right when it comes out. We all know that. Neither one of the systems will have much of a launch lineup. This happens with every new system anymore. The launch game lineups suck.

For me, its all about the games. If you show me at least one great game that I’m interested in, then I’ll think about your system. If there are other games I want on the system too, then there’s a great chance that I’ll pick it up.

And I know that eventually I’ll get a PS5. There are just too many Sony exclusives that I like. Plus not all of the cool Square games come to the Switch!

But at launch? This year? No, I’m not interested in the PS5. I may never be interested in the Xbox Series X.

Right now, I’m excited to see what comes next to the Nintendo Switch. I’m hopeful that we still have a few more cool games coming for the PS4 too.
