Final Fantasy 7 Remake First Impressions

Yesterday, I went and got my pre-ordered copy of Final Fantasy 7 Remake from Gamestop. A day early! I couldn’t believe it. And so I have played Final Fantasy 7 Remake a little bit already and I’m ready to share my first impressions of the game. Does it live up to the hype?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake came out today. I was fortunate enough to get my copy yesterday. I’ve played it a bit and I’m ready to give our readers my first impressions of the game.

First, lets talk about Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s graphics.

FF7R is the best looking game on the PS4. The graphics  are stunning. The characters are super realistic looking and the environments are jaw dropping. Cloud’s sword is still unrealistic though. I love it.

And there’s the gameplay! The demo showed off the new action based gameplay and so I knew what to expect there. I am enjoying the new battle system, though occasionally the old school rpg fan in me wishes it was still turn-based. I really love the pop-up menu based system for spells, special attacks, and items.

I’m also a huge fan of the game’s out of battle menus: from the map to the weapon upgrade system to the return of materia. It all feels like Final Fantasy 7. Best of all though: you can save anywhere via the game’s menu! Yes, save points are gone. I am so happy about that.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has a lot more exploration of Midgar too. The city feels more alive than the orignal game. Its pretty amazing so far. I can’t wait to see where the game will take me next.

Then there’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s story. I won’t spoil anything here but I will say that the game is a combination of the PS1 classic with plenty of new scenes. There has been times in the Remake where I go “oh I remember that” and other times when I go “wait. THAT wasn’t in the orignal.” That said, I am really loving the new content and think it fits very well with the stuff I remember. I don’t remember voice acting in the orignal though…

I absolutely love the voice acting! The PS1 game, of course, had no voice acting. Its great to hear the characters in the PS4 remake talk and the story feels even more like a movie.

Oh and I can’t finish these impressions without mentioning the music! Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1 had fantastic music and so far the remake is improving on it. How is that possible? I don’t know but they are absolutely doing it. The music is incredible.

I’m not very far into Final Fantasy 7 Remake but I am liking it a lot so far. The graphics and the voice/music are blowing me away the most. The story is really good and I’m enjoying the expanded content. And the battle system is pretty good and the exploration is a blast.

If you’re a fan of the orignal game, you should play this one too. If you never played the orignal, I think you should play this one. Final Fantasy 7 Remake will appeal to both rpg and non-rpg fans. Its a stunning game.

Have you played Final Fantasy 7 Remake yet? What do you think of it?
