My six year old son Logan is in the ‘turtle’ phase of his life. He has Ninja Turtles toys, books, and even a backpack and lunch pail for school. So, letting him play Mutants in Manhattan with me was a natural progression for him. While I found the game ‘meh’ he found it exhilarating.

It’s odd how we look at things differently. I classified the fighting as chaotic the majority of the time, leaving me to button mash and hopefully land a great combo. Logan on the other hand found the battles exciting, fun to play, and always changing. In fact, he would purposefully avoid the main objective to just walk around the various environments to fight the hordes of enemies that lurked around every corner. He liked every aspect of this area of the game, where as I did not.

He was also a huge fan of the turtle variety. While I enjoyed what each Ninja Turtle brought to the table – I found one I enjoyed and stuck with him for most of my adventure. Logan was swapping between characters faster than anything, and actually arguing for why he should do it. “But dad, if I use this turtle I’ll have an advantage!” The advantage is minuscule at best, which is why I always stuck with one turtle as often as possible, but he saw something slighly different that he felt was giving him a huge advantage. Kudos to the developers for putting that in; obviously people do like change, even if I don’t.

Overall, Logan was incredibly impressed with the game. When asking him what the game deserves for a score, he said “a perfect.” So there you have it, if you have a turtle fan in the house, grab Mutants in Manhattan. It will be a fun experience for fathers or mothers to share with their turtle loving kids. You really cannot put a price tag on those types of interactions.
