Will Assassin’s Creed Fatigue Happen?
Assassin’s Creed is undoubtedly one of the larger franchises in current video games, and can boast being one of the best AND one of the worst franchises to date. Most people were on board for Assassin’s Creed when it first launched, and many praised it for the unique gameplay. Collecting flags – at least at that point – was a minor annoyance at best. Assassin’s Creed was heralded by many as the next big thing.
It was, and for some, still is one of the best franchises. Personally, I love the idea behind Assassin’s Creed, but I really hate the execution. Assassin’s Creed, Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag and for many, Assassins Creed 2 were outstanding games. The others were either a variation of a previous release, or it was plagued by unplayability – Assassin’s Creed 3 and Unity fit that bill.
Each Assassin’s Creed always looks great when we get to see it at E3, but execution seems to be hit and miss. I wonder how long before fatigue of the franchise sets in, either because consumers get tired of the formula, or gamers get frustrated by unpredictable releases. Will you be buying the newest Assassin’s Creed on day one?
