Sparking Zero’s Super Limit-Breaking Neo DLC Confirmed for July 30, Switch Waits Longer
Bandai Namco has confirmed that Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO‘s biggest expansion yet, the “Super Limit-Breaking NEO” DLC, launches on 30 July 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The publisher confirmed on its official European news page that ZERO’s new content, the “Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC”, will be released on 30 July 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners, however, will have to wait longer, with no firm date yet announced for those platforms.
The expansion was first teased late last year and formally unveiled with a trailer during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 showcase in Los Angeles on 19 April. Confirmation of the exact release date arrived this week through both Bandai Namco’s own channels and Sony’s PlayStation Blog, which detailed the content players can expect on day one.
Limit Breaker Journey Adds a New Single-Player Progression Mode
The headline addition is a brand-new solo mode called “Limit Breaker Journey.” According to Bandai Namco, this DLC will introduce a new solo mode called “Limit Breaker Journey”, where players can choose their favourite character, develop their abilities and customise them through a variety of battles, navigating the map, selecting opponents based on their strength and using Battle Arts to gain advantages. Character stats built up in the mode carry over into other parts of the game, letting players field a strengthened version of their chosen fighter regardless of form.
Sparking! ZERO producer Jun Furutani introduced the feature directly to fans, saying: “I’m Furutani, the producer of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. Today, we’d like to provide a more detailed introduction to the ‘Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC!'” The PlayStation Blog added further detail on the mode’s mechanics, noting that players can equip Battle Arts to unlock special effects such as limited-time boosts to ki-based attacks or attack power increases in Sparking mode, obtained through special encounters, with SP earned through levelling up allocated across six different stats. Restart.run reported the mode also folds in four new “What If” Episode Battles built around Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Krillin, and Cell in branching story path scenarios.
33 New Fighters Bring Super 17, Bardock and GT-Era Legends
On the roster side, Bandai Namco Europe’s official listing states the expansion adds over 30 additional fighters, including Super 17, Bardock (Super Saiyan), Champa, and Vegeta (GT), with several characters making their Budokai Tenkaichi series debut for the first time. The fuller character list published alongside the reveal names further additions such as Grandpa Gohan, Mercenary Tao, Demon King Piccolo, Zangya, Pikkon, Hell Fighter 17, Champa, King Vegeta, Cheelai, Jaco, and GT-era fighters including Trunks and Nuova Shenron. Twistedvoxel corroborated the scale of the update, noting that the base game launched in 2024 with more than 180 fighters and now features over 200 playable characters even before this expansion lands.
Four Destructible Stages and Free Sparking Boost, Chain Blast Mechanics
Beyond new characters, the DLC brings four fresh battlegrounds. The PlayStation Blog lists them as Kami’s Palace, Kame House, Bitter Tundra, and Stratosphere (Earth and Planet Vegeta), each built around the series’ signature environmental destruction. Crucially, some of the new combat mechanics won’t be locked behind the paid expansion at all. Both Bandai Namco and Sony confirmed that the DLC launches on July 30, 2026, and fans will be able to enjoy free updates that include new features such as Sparking Boost and Chain Blast, meaning every Sparking! ZERO owner gets the new battle system regardless of whether they buy the character pack.
Switch and Switch 2 Owners Left Waiting Again
Nintendo’s platforms remain the odd ones out. Restart.run confirmed that while the DLC is coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC on July 30, dates for the Switch and Switch 2 version have not been revealed yet. It’s a familiar pattern for the game: Nintendo Life reported that when the previous Daima and Shallot character packs finally arrived on Nintendo hardware in May, this upcoming DLC will also be delayed for Nintendo platforms, as well as any other free content updates that have been announced and released.
That lag traces back to the Switch and Switch 2 versions arriving over a year after the original PS5, Xbox and PC release in October 2024, landing locally on 14 November 2025. For New Zealand and Australian players who picked up Sparking! ZERO on Switch 2, it means the wait for Super Limit-Breaking NEO’s full character roster, stages and solo mode will likely stretch well beyond the 30 July launch enjoyed by PC and other console owners, with no regional timeline yet confirmed by Bandai Namco.
Pricing for the standalone DLC has not yet been detailed, and Bandai Namco has indicated further specifics will follow closer to the 30 July launch. Given the scale of the roster expansion and the new progression system, fans are expecting the pack to be positioned as the game’s most substantial paid content drop since launch, following criticism earlier this year that player engagement had cooled despite the game’s strong initial sales.
