Funko Fusion is a unique gaming experience that brings together iconic characters from various franchises into a single, open-world adventure. As a fan of both Funko Pop! collectibles and video games, I was eager to dive into this title, but my experience was somewhat mixed. The core mechanics are very similar to Lego games, which makes sense because much of the team had previously worked on some of the Lego titles, however it’s not executed nearly as well.
The Good:
- Nostalgia-Filled Worlds: The game’s levels are based on beloved franchises like Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and The Thing. Exploring these familiar settings is a treat for fans, and the developers have done a great job capturing the essence of each franchise.
- Diverse Gameplay: Funko Fusion offers a variety of gameplay mechanics, from platforming and combat to puzzle-solving and exploration. This keeps the experience fresh and engaging.
- Charming Character Design: The Funko Pop! style characters look adorable and fit perfectly into the game’s world. Their unique designs and personalities add a touch of charm.
The Bad:
- Repetitive Gameplay: While the initial exploration and character unlocks are exciting, the gameplay can become repetitive after a while. The core mechanics don’t evolve significantly, and the levels often feel similar in structure.
- Technical Issues: Unfortunately, Funko Fusion has been plagued by technical issues, including performance problems and occasional glitches. These can detract from the overall experience.
- Lack of Depth: The game’s story and characters are relatively shallow, and the world feels somewhat empty. There’s a missed opportunity to delve deeper into the lore and create more meaningful connections between the franchises.
Conclusion:
Funko Fusion is a fun and nostalgic experience that offers a unique blend of gameplay and pop culture references. One MAJOR flaw in my opinion is the best characters and levels are hidden, like Jaws, Back to the Future, The Mummy, and Five Nights at Freddys are much shorter experiences you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get to. No one asked for a Battlestar Galactica experience, the level choices are very odd and they did not capitalize on the bigger ones. On Top of that, the repetitive gameplay and technical issues can hinder its appeal. If you’re a fan of Funko Pop! collectibles and enjoy casual, open-world adventures, Funko Fusion may be worth checking out. But be aware of its limitations before diving in.
